quote:

"We saw a White girl in Iowa do it to a bunch of Black girls. That gained my respect," Pierce said on FS1's "Undisputed." "She didn't do this to some other little White girls that was over here in Colorado or whatever. She did this to some girls from LSU, who we thought were dogs, defending champs.

"[She] put them on her knee and spanked them. I didn't expect that."

Does he realize that 2 of the top 3 players in the NBA are white?

Tbf, Paul Pierce is an idiot and certainly doesn't know what he's talking about. Also, a bunch of it she did to a white girl.

Side effect of more talk about women's basketball is people talking out their arse will have to talk about it.

Typical racist hypocrite in the national media who would cry foul if anyone said anything negative about blacks, but is perfectly fine with implying racist things while talking about white players.

This guy obviously doesn’t follow women’s college hoops. Race has nothing to do with anything in this game. Nothing. The performance on the court is a function of hard earned skill and repetition.

Paul Pierce: good player years ago / total crap commentator today

[same pov for many ex-NBA or ex-NFL commentators - they're mostly unbearable to listen to]

I wonder if he knows the men’s and women’s game is completely different…

They hate that a white chick is better than them and so they have to give a back handed compliment to make themselves feel better and stick it to whitey.

The entire statement is incredibly obtuse. What a fricking stupid thing to say.

That's an absolutely disgusting take by Pierce. I want CC to light up everyone in the WF4. The media is saying 10k rosaries and praying that USC wins.

In fairness, when you’re a starting forward in the NBA for so many years you’re probably not spending much of your free time watching women’s college basketball. Still a dumbass statement.

Race has less to do with sports in general than we think not just WBB. There are certain advantages between races (whites have slightly longer torsos, sub Saharan Africans have quicker twitch reflexes) but they’re not as significant as we tell ourselves. The overwhelmingly biggest thing is that black kids want to be athletes way more than white kids. Charles Barkley said it best, when he gives talks at white elementary schools, like 3rd graders, only about 10% of the kids want to be professional athletes when they grow up, at black schools it’s more like 90%. A lot of white parents drill into their kids’ heads that the odds of making it in a professional sport are extremely low, so unless they’re among the best in the state, they tend to choose to make money elsewhere.

BIack people do not get that lesson in America to the same extent. They’ve traditionally seen it as one of two of their only chances to be rich (the other one is music).

Overseas it seems like a different issue since the biggest sport in the world (soccer) is mostly white.

yes BUT in fairness, PP getting paid to be a sports commentator so 30 min of research (with 1 quick walk-thru w/yr peers or producer?) to avoid dumbass statements is a reasonable expectation if you're at 1 of the world's largest sports media co's

but as noted earlier--more often than not--ex-NBA and ex-NFL stars (or non-stars like Booger) turned sports commentators are flat-out bloody dreadful

i worked in TV in LA (CA) so perhaps it irks me a bit more but while TV is fast-paced there's ample time to prevent stupidity like this
