It's not PETA. Mike VI almost got out one day when the trainers were practicing with him to get in the trailer. He didn't like it and made his position known by charging the trailer before they could secure it to the enclosure. That was last time anyone tried to get Mike (any Mike) to the field.

There is no doubt that the three loudest games in Tiger Stadium history were USC '79. Georgia '03 and Florida '07.
Hat's off to the 1979 game, capacity then was only 80,000 and nobody sat down or left the entire night. Only time I've ever seen a Tiger team get a standing ovation in defeat.

If a loud stadium environment like that stresses the animal out but you are all for it for "spirit" reasons, I'd consider that a form of abuse.

The fireworks screwed up having Mike on the sidelines. Mike would not get back in his cage to go to the games after that. We had an intimidation factor with Mike on the sidelines and it has been ruined and will never come back now.

IMO 2007 was nothing compared to the 97 game even with all the extra seats. But my opinion may be affected due to being a student then.

I was in the student section in 97. I just remember our group somehow moved down what seemed like 10 or so rows as the game went on without really realizing it. Student section was just jumping around so much that we were all moving seat locations.

2007 was better than 03 UGA though.

Hard to believe that we’ll more than likely never see Tiger Stadium this way again. Really do miss the good ole days

I think the Auburn game this year as well as Ole Miss 2014, USC 2012, and a few others in between then proved that this isn't true. She's still there it's just up to the team to compete against elite teams again. That Auburn game was loud as hell and only 60-75% full.

I'm lucky enough to have been to all three of those games. The '79 game was my true introduction to LSU football as a freshman student. I had a class with Benjy Thibodeaux, who got called for the "phantom facemask". He walked into Greek/Roman Mythology the next Monday morning to an ovation.

Bama guys: the crowd was loud, much louder than usual. Me: pshhhh that was not loud Bama guys: Not Death Valley loud, it's never death valley loud.

The only thing louder in Bryant-Denny on Saturday was the crappy piped-in music. I thought all stadiums were bad but this was the absolute worst. It seemed every time a play stopped the music started up, especially when LSU had the ball. Horrible.

Tradition part?
Multi million dollar habitat part?
Screw peta part?

All logical points to me.
I'm going to assume you get your feelings hurt fairly easy.
Are you female?

Stress out a team of humans.. more than ok and encouraged.

Stress out a tiger that in the wild are under constant stress to survive.

Abuse..

Gotcha

I hate to say it but tiger stadium is a shell of it's former self. Because of Prices, spoiled fans, and the general candyassness of the new tiger fans, it will never be what it was. So thankful to my dad for taking me and seeing what a home crowd advantage was.
