Honestly haven't read much of Guilbeau but he hit the nail on the head with this one... so annoying to hear all the nay-saying

He 's right this one time but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

GG's been reading the Rant.

I never thought I'd ever say this....but I agree with Guilbeaux on this one...

I love being 2-0, ranked in the top 10 and being a tiger!

I've agreed with him more than this once, but he's really on the money here. He is a contrary lot, though.

Though GG sucks fishdicks, I have to agree with that gay fish on this one.

This may be GG's most idiotic, hypocritical column of all time, and that's saying something. It's like saying Dale Brown's most idiotic time out of all time.
GG whines about things more than any other LSU beat reporter. The glass has always been half empty (except when the "fans" are doing it too, then it's times zig, while they zag to stay ahead, or above them.)
The internet has made people who barf opinion professionally in print and radio (like GG, Condon, and even Tim Brando) look kind of pale and overpaid, since many people with a keyboard and few minutes to kill can duplicate and outdo those opinions fairly easily.
Among a small fan community like this one, they even have the same audience, and that's been GG's monopoly all along.
The fans don't have to do anything. They can cheer, boo and fill up the seats and buy newspapers once in a while, and certainly complain on internet sites if they like -- that seems to be be why message boards exist. The internet is exactly the kind of theater where people may yell "fire".
It's GG who should stop whining (about the fans, or the fact that Matt Flynn was recruited by Saban) and start writing something interesting. Because print media is a dinosaur, with its head low and walking in slow steps, old and tired, with scant meat on its bones, no longer able to carry the likes of Glenn Guilbeau.

Just because he's being a hypocrite and a contrarian (and he is), doesn't mean he isn't right, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Nice rant, but I tend to agree that there are too many negative voices out there nowadays. Do you disagree?
Print media maybe dead but digital media allows the lowest common denominator a loud voice.

My first game in TS was in 1960. The fanbase then is exactly what GG described for the current fan base.
As to GG's columns, it is his OPINION. If he makes you crazy, then don't read it.

Overall, sure, there's too much negativity. And too many clowns grabbing for the mic
But GG is the last person who should be giving lectures on the power of positive thinking.
I think most people were pleased with the improvement of the defense, the continued solid play of JJ, the emergence of RJ, and an overall solid W on a wet and slippery field. Most of the fans here even seem to be keenly aware and in agreement that we are slowly revealing the playbook for the meat of the schedule.
With USL coming up, there's was not much to say, so let's be negative about the fans.

LSU's coaches made a big mistake last year by trying to treat Jarrett Lee as if he was already JaMarcus Russell
Boy, that's no chit!!
I have to smile and sometimes at myself with the whining bout the whining.

There are fans who are gonna bitch no matter what. My problem is with LSU fans that leave the games early. If you don't plan on staying till the end, give your ticket to a true fan who will!

about the 'stop whining'...that's a given.
about the LSU coaches had no sense of urgency last year...complete conjecture with no basis in fact. the coaches had a fairly veteran team that, for whatever reason, never developed the on-field leadership we were used to having.
about trying to make JLee into JRussel...complete bullshite. Almost every JLee pick six was a short to medium pass that he either telegraphed or did not recognise coverage. He was fairly successful with his deep throws. Problem was, JLee practiced far better than he performed at game speed.
JMHO.

While GG is merely a contrarian looking to stir folks up by going against the grain, it still stands to reason that his opinion and truth will, occasionally, accidentally coincide.
quote:I haven't read it because he's not worth the web traffic, but if he is saying LSU fans are complaining far more than they have any rational reason to complain, then yes; this is such an occasion.
This is such an occasion.

the team didn't get better last year as the season went on...they had a great bowl game and that's it. I just don't understand why everyone is so damn sure that this team is going to get better when we've seen many mistakes over the first 2 games. I'm hoping for the best, but if i had to bet now on how things turn out, i'm thinking 4-5 loses. I'd like to know what secret info Gilbeaux has.
