Guilbeau: Orgeron does not inherit as great a program as Miles

I know Guilbeau isn't held in high esteem here, and I don't necessarily agree with his thesis, but I thought this was an interesting topic for discussion.

GUILBEAU: ORGERON DOES NOT INHERIT NEARLY AS GREAT A PROGRAM IN 2017 AS DID MILES IN 2005
quote:
Miles’ best parting gifts to Orgeron were unquestionably Guice and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. The offensive line he leaves, though, may be the worst of his 12-year tenure. Orgeron was reminded of that clearly in the 10-0 loss to Alabama.
So, you may not want to hear this, but Orgeron deserves a significant grace period – much more than Miles, who admitted above that he inherited “everything.”
Orgeron should not realistically be expected to be a national championship player until about 2019. With Aranda, new offensive coordinator Matt Canada, Etling and Guice, the Tigers could sneak up and make a run in 2017, but there is not enough talent on the offensive line to really go far.
Orgeron nailed it after the Alabama game when he said LSU needs some first round picks on its offensive line to go against Alabama’s first round picks on its defensive line. And I’d get some quarterbacks, too. Not sure about the two coming in.
“We look forward to building a championship program here,” Orgeron said after the game Saturday. “We’ve got work to do."

I don't understand the ppl that think we're gonna go undefeated or have 1 loss next year. We lose a TON from a mediocre 4 loss team, not to mention most of which is NFL talent.

And Saban inherited more talent in 2000 than Miles did in 2005. The football program today is in far better shape than it was when Les got here. Gilbeau is a Miles bashing hack.

I promised myself that I would try to avoid pointless LSU arguments in the new year, but this statement is indefensible.

We were sold on continuity. If this 'grace period' is anything longer than a year, then screw that.

He's not sure about the QBs? When healthy (I get thats a big if) Narcisse is one of the best QBs in the country. Brennan is also one of the top 5-10. So we can only compete with the absolute #1?

shall we compare the 4 years prior for both? CLM inherited a program that won a National Title and sec titles...COach O and Saban did not so how is the program better today than when CLM took over?

I would agree on 2019 being earliest to compete for national title.

Neither has played a down of college football. You have zero clue whether they will pan out. We are due though.

When are either of those guys going to be ready to contribute?
I'm expecting 9-3 to 8-4 next year. I think that's reasonable given the upheaval of both the roster and coaching staff.

This is absolutely true, but they are two very highly touted prospects, and other than Narcisse having injury issues, Glenn is basing that statement on absolutely nothing other than poking the nest.

He really is just an idiot, and someone that should not have any credibility. Just look below in this one small snippet.
Will Clapp has some talent lol, as well as up and down that line are highly recruited and evaluated players.
Not sure? Is he serious? What more could you want in a QB recruiting class, for most teams just getting one would be a good haul, but for the first time next year in a long time we will have depth at the QB position and when turnover happens (graduation, transfers, injury) there are capable backups and quality SEC caliber backups. Myles Brennan grew up a tiger, has great technique, pocket awareness, and most of all a true leader (set up the group message for this recruiting class, and actively recruits WR targets and offensive recruits.) He is the #6 Pro-style
Narcisse is the #12 DT, but without his injury would be much higher, as well grew up a tiger fan. While growing up a tiger is not imperative to making a great tiger, these guys have a different appreciation and drive to make not only the football program better but know they represent so much more.
I read the entire article, and one of his main points is that LSU does not have first round talent on its OL, which is what you need to win a national championship. He is flat wrong, in the article he even lists the guys that were Saban recruits that Les won a natty with. Um Glenn there were no first rounders.
Define a grace period? This is LSU and in our current state, the goal is to compete for an SEC championship every year, and be in the national championship conversation It is not some incredible knowledge that Les got left a full cupboard, but CEO is pretty damn full.

There was a LOT of talent when Saban came, people forget that. There is a lot of talent now too...just gotta do better on OL or develop a scheme to accommodate a less than superior OL

not controversial at all. i think we can all agree that Miles walked into the perfect storm. coach O, on the other hand, has alot of undoing and mindset changing to overcome.
Posted on 1/3/17 at 4:36 pm to DmitriKaramazov
He fails to mention Miles’ parting gift to LSU. Yes, Miles was given everything when he came to LSU, yes, he built nothing, but the one thing Miles did do was this, mediocrity and the continual departure of 5-star in-state talent leaving for Bama.

Tell you what you can do then. Go compile a list of future NFL players from the 2000 rise and from the 2005 roster and see what you get.
