Well, Roger Clemens said something stupid. Go figure. What they need is both, which is what Roger Clemens had.

Penny, who are you taking, Nolan Ryan or Rocket ?

Steriods is the final link in the chain. Dont forget that one.

Had full command and control. Low and away or up and in, he was a master of it. It’s nice to have the 95+ fastball but if you work every edge and level of the zone, you can be lethal without the 95+ fastball.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but he struck out Konnor Griffin to start the game off in that clip that OP posted.

Same is true of each of them. A pitcher can’t just throw hard, nor can he just have movement (with a very few exceptions). It’s like people saying “Defense wins championships”; well, you have to have defense, offense and special teams to win championships.

You should be a politician, pennie

Too lazy, and though I’m not very honest, I’m still too honest for that.

Right
I don't think they've been watching much baseball lately. A lot of umpires are garbage today in both college and MLB.

Just figured you should know since you were the Maddox expert.

Can we talk about the camera angle of this footage? Can we petition to get this angle as the standard for baseball viewing?
This was the angle I grew up watching all the time. I don't know why we get so many off-centered views now.

That’s not a cutter. It’s breaking away from the opposite hand hitter. That means it’s a change-up or sinker. I couldn’t tell the velo on the pitch so I’m not sure which one it is. If it’s low to mid 80’s it’s a change-up, if it’s high 80’s low 90’s it’s a sinker. You are correct when you said “it’s nasty” though. All 3 pitches look like they are coming from the same arm slot. When you put all 3 pitches on an overlay I’d be willing to bet they come out of the same arm slot and look nearly identical. That with pinpoint command will make you a top 5-10 pitcher in the MLB regardless of velocity.

I realize that it has opposite movement than normal, but the movement does not appear to behave like a sinker or changeup. You could call it a screwball, I suppose, but I call a pitch that cuts, a cutter. A screwball is supposed to be sort of a backwards curveball. Whatever it is, is looks like a fastball and has that late cutting action, and the fact that it's moving away I think is even more effective than a normal cutter. You just don't expect a pitch to do that.
If it is a changeup, it's the strangest and filthiest changeup I've maybe ever seen. Very late movement, as opposed to a fading action. Could be a splitter, but I don't see any sink.
