So the defense knew what to do, but just could not do it.

It wouldn't have been as bad without the short fields.

It would have been worse. They still would have scored 7 points every possession, but they would have pounded us more to go farther.

Penn’s statement makes it clear they did not run one rep during the week simulating the backup. It really is unbelievable.

how many snaps do you think Nick Saban spends on a backup that literally NEVER enters the game when the starter is not injured?

the NCAA limits teams to 20 countable hours toward your sport each week.
3 of those hours is the game itself (yes, the game counts toward your 20 for the week).
any time spent on weight training and conditioning (including guys taping up before practice) also count toward those 20 hours.
any team or position group meeting (including those not discussing specifics for the upcoming game) count toward those hours.
any time spent watching game film from the previous game count toward those hours.
time spent putting in your base packages for the upcoming game count.
your final walkthrough counts.

so you're left with very very little time if any to prep for a guy that literally has never ever taken a single competitive snap when the starter is healthy and playing.

We didn't think that he was going to come in the game, so him coming in the game caught us off guard. We didn't really know what runs they were going to run. Them doing that opened the game up for them in terms of what they were doing on offense.'' I appreciate his honesty. But is inexcusable for a Coaching staff not to prepare some for Reed.

So they didn’t play a single read option QB this entire season. One that threw 1 pass.
That is an excuse before they were 2 fricking slow to get to him. Noticed Weeks whiffing arm tackle and overrunning plays? The Arky QB the week before ran the same shite

Regardless of healty snaps, what happens when the starter is under performing. You and everybody who knows anything about this game knows when you have a quality backup he is going into the game when your starter is not getting the job done. It happens every week at every level of this game and it happened last Saturday night in College Station.

You think if we somehow rematch A&M in the SECCG that we use some of that limited practice time to game plan for two QBs? I can guarantee S.Carolina is game planning this week for 2 QBs.

We are prepared for that scheme. Other opponents run it. Arkansas does a lot of the same. I can see the first possesion being caught off guard. But after that we should know thos roles and assignments.

Other things that didn’t help D:
Short fields due to INTs and missed/muffed FGs.
Fatigue due to same and lack of sustained drives.
And the aTm points look a lot worse when we left 23 pts on the field easily.

Shitstorm.

Monday TBob and Hester said if only the defense had a “bad” play or two that maybe the starter wouldn’t have been pulled.

because for the first time all year they actually USED two QBs.

Nick Saban doesn’t prepare for two QBs unless his opponent actually uses 2.
he has talked multiple times about the challenges that presents because it’s not normal.

You don’t prepare for a guy that doesn’t play (outside of injury).

that simple.

but everyone needs a reason to blame somebody so they’re just gonna parrot this bullshite.

I know GP gives great effort and is a leader. He makes some tackles and plays but it's been 3 consecutive years of getting gashed with inside zone run plays because he hasn't met a guard yet that he doesn't want to hug. Either loses his run fit or cannot get off a block far too often. Sometimes it looks like he plays like a D lineman and tries to occupy blockers to free up someone behind him.

Also, these defensive players have seen Read Option Offenses since Jr High. It pretty much the standard at this point. Best athlete at QB and run it up. Not prepared for that look is a flimsy excuse at best.

Our defense is getting better, and I am very hopeful and excited about their potential to become a traditional Tiger D. We have to get better and more consitent and dominant in the box first.

CBK failed. No game time adjustments at all. He is not the coach for LSU.

LSU doesn’t have the athletes to stop that style of quarterback with any amount of speed. Weeks and Penn are too slow. And then there’s major burns. He was constantly in the wrong spot. Just go rewash the game. Look at the number of whiff as a quarterback, ran past them.
