Praying for Greg and his family
Posted on 9/20/23 at 8:38 am to Tman
I hate to have to keep qualifying these posts, but I am simply ignorant and am in no way criticizing the LSU medical staff. But the family wrote that it was a “large tumor.” I can’t imagine it would come on and grow so fast. And I doubt a CT scan is part of the routine physicals the players have to go through before every season.
But if he truly was battling vertigo a month or so back, wouldn’t they have run a CT scan as part of the protocol? The doctors/hospitals/insurance companies likely wouldn’t have for us regular folks without other symptoms, I’d imagine. But for a football player that bangs helmets with other large and fast humans running into each other at full speed 100 times a week, wouldn’t they be extra pre-cautious and make sure to rule anything serious out?
Again, no criticism, just asking for some enlightenment on the testing protocols from some of the posters here in the medical field. TIA and Prayers up for 3.

GBMs absolutely can
Hence the "emergency surgery"

I was wondering the same. I’m assuming this time he experienced far worse symptoms. Hopefully this will encourage more thorough examinations for cases like this.

Oh crap!!!!
Praying hard for a complete recovery. Football is suddenly a whole lot less important.
Get better Greg.

Again, I am not qualified to dispute that—I just really want to learn. Could they grow so fast that they wouldn’t have shown up in CT scan a month or 2 ago? Or would the doctors not run one without more severe symptoms. I was just curious if they weren’t extra cautious for a football payer with head issues simply due to the nature of the sport and all the recent focus on concussions and CTE the past decade or so.

Many prayers for Greg and his family that this is not cancerous and he recovers quickly and safely.
There sure are a lot of people claiming they do. They don't seem to know about HIPAA, though.

What is encouraging about the family statement is that surgeons successfully removed the mass. glioblastoma tumors generally cannot be totally removed.

Didn't Jimmy Lindsey the defensive coach step away for personal reasons for the same situation. Why hasn't any updated news came out about Jimmy?
