As I, Valley, outlandeagle & other GSU posters have said we give credit where it is due. I can't see any of the LSU fans saying the same thing. I guess the LSU fans are to prideful.

LSU Fan, GSU grad here. Went to UNO for 2 years and submitted an app to LSU. Last minute sent one to GSU and got in there as well. I was paying for my own college and just decided it would be fun to go somewhere completely different.

Any GSU fan should understand my screen name... TigerErk.

GSU is a proud program that has a solid history. Seems like the only time they sucked is when they abandoned the option. But if any GSU fan expects a win out of this game they are delusional. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just not likely. But GSU beat Florida. And they took UGA to overtime.

But don't think this is the year. Past couple of years maybe would have been more of a possibility.

Personally I'm picking LSU and rooting for LSU. Doesn't mean I don't love my Eagles, but with a win and undefeated season GSU still would not get into the playoff mix. LSU though has a chance to have a special season.

Hope its close but that Tigers pull it out.

Don't forget to buy your latest LSU gear before it sells out at Walmart.

It's game week right? I'm supposed to start saying those sort of things.

TALON to Tiger Erk

I see you have 4 schools listed UNO, App, GSU & FSU. Did you attend GSU during the Erk era?

You are right about doing very well using the Flex Option for years and every time one of our ADs wanted to switch from what worked he installed a more pass happy or cookie cutter offense that tried to turn offensive players into something that they weren't.

When you said that we would have had a better chance the last several years we would have had NO chance from 2016 and 2017. 2017 being the worst year in GSUS modern history. I doubt GSU has a great chance in 2018 with a new HC & staff even though we went 10-3 it was a rebound year after 2017s 2-10 year and the players had to be recached their position.

I Believe you would be right about having our best chance at winning against LSU the Gophers or any P5 teams in 2014 & 15. GSU played GT, 42-48 - North Carolina,23-24 and lost to top 10 Georgia in overtime.

Our HC stated that both the offense a and defense has advanced greatly over last year and our offense will be more complex and execute much better.

As you can see GSU has true sports fans that understand the Coaches and players get it done on the field not board posters.

There will be plenty of good seats available in the 4th quarter...that’s when everyone leaves to go finish breaking down their tailgate, finish partying, or just to go beat traffic.

I graduated from both schools...Southern for Undergrad and LSU for grad school.

Southern really killed my interest in the program when they moved up to FBS from the FCS. Back in the glory days of Southern football it was great being in the Socon and playing teams that were drivable. Wofford, Furman, Elon, Appy, Samford, Citadel, etc. Almost all of the opponents were (somewhat) local/drivable and you knew people at these schools. It made game days a lot of fun- and GA Southern constantly made it to the FCS playoffs and competed- and there was always a crowd that traveled with the team.

Fast forward in the Sun Belt- GA Southern plays North Texas, Central Arkansas, New Mexico State, and several other “who cares” universities. Yeah, Southern gets more TV exposure but it is an embarrassment because no one is at the games- really- how many students and alumni are going to travel to Las Cruces New Mexico to watch the team?

The final straw for me is when they put the homecoming game on a Thursday night because it was against App State and televised on ESPN. It completely alienated a lot of alumni- how can you expect alumni to donate, much less come to games, if you put the biggest game of the year ON A THURSDAY night.

Yes, I know Ga Southern has played well against NC State, Ga Tech, UGA, Florida- but playing well isn’t winning and the only one of those games that were won was against Florida. Almost winning isn’t winning. I’d rather compete against NDSU and Youngstown State for a championship than compete for the turd bowl.

Even though Joe and F-King did some dumb crap- thank god they didn’t make similar moves.

Anyways- I’ll be cheering for the Tigers on Saturday, no doubt about it. This is going to be a big year for the Tigers and I’m ready to get geauxing!

North Texas moved to CUSA before GS joined the Sun Belt and the two have never played each other. Central Arkansas in still FCS and the last time GS played them was in the FCS playoffs. NMSU is the only team you listed that GS has played since moving to the Sun Belt. As far as drivable games Coastal Carolina, AppSt, Georgia State, and Troy. Also several of the out of conference games scheduled are drivable GaTech, Georgia, Auburn, NC State, UAB.

Excuse me, Texas State and Arkansas State. Just proves my point on how the distance + insignificance of the opponent makes most fans not care.

And you can’t deny that the program was more fun to watch and follow when we were playing in the Socon.
UGA won’t schedule Southern anymore, and the other games are just one offs- no real rivalry development besides State. I know they are trying to push the Coastal Carolina thing- but it feels forced.

Talon,

Not sure where the schools are showing but here's a quick run down... NLU Monroe (when they were the Indians) in 84. After a 0.69 GPA decided it was time to get a job. UNO from 88 - 90. Wen to Panama City in 90 and decided to transfer to a school closer to the beach. Wound up picking GA Southern. Made it to Tybee once and Hilton Head once. So much for that. Graduated in 93, then went to Grad school at the other GSU (GA State).

I just missed the ERK years arriving in 90. Tim Stowers took over that year. Still got to experience a National Championship though. The Erk mystic was still in force. Had a blast at Southern... and that's going from New Orleans to Statesboro.

Reference to "better Luck" in previous years is more about how LSU was doing then. This year I think LSU can be the best its been in a while.

And can't tell you what I'd like to Brian VanGorder.
