OP. What are your thoughts on the schedule now? Please advise

Paid Troy 985k in 2017.
Georgia Southern 925k for this weekend.

Someone did not pay enough to guarantee the win.

From May 2013.

Georgia Southern is also slated to visit LSU on Sept. 13, 2014. But due to the addition of Navy and possibly Georgia Tech and NC State, there is speculation that the LSU game will be moved to the 2015 season.

The below is from spring of 2014.

The LSU Tigers have made several changes to their future football schedules over the past few months, including the postponement of two home-and-home series and date changes for other games.

2017
•09/02 – Georgia Southern
•09/09 – NC State
•09/30 – Troy

LSU will pay guarantees of $508,000 to Georgia Southern and $985,000 to Troy. The Georgia Southern game was initially scheduled for Sept. 13, 2014.

From Feb 2016

LSU-Georgia Southern Date Set

LSU was previously slated to host Georgia Southern on Sept. 13, 2014, but the game was later pushed back to Sept. 2, 2017. After LSU scheduled BYU for the 2017 season, the game was pushed back for a second time and has now landed on Aug. 31, 2019.

The contract to play this game was signed before Georgia Southern moved up to FBS. Reports are that LSU is paying Georgia Southern 925k for the game.

LSU claims 3 National Championship which I have no problem with but still they are not true NCAA Football Championships. One that LSU claims is listed below.

The 2003 college football regular season ended with three one-loss teams in BCS contention: the LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, and USC Trojans. USC ended the regular season ranked No. 1 and LSU No. 2 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches' Poll. Media controversy ensued when the BCS computer-based selection system chose LSU and Oklahoma as the participants in the BCS title game, largely based on an assessment of the relative difficulty of the three teams' 2003 schedules. During the bowl games, LSU beat No. 3 Oklahoma 21–14 in the Sugar Bowl (designated as the BCS National Championship Game for the 2003–04 season), while USC defeated the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines 28–14 in the Rose Bowl. LSU was ranked No. 1 in the final Coaches' Poll, and USC remained No. 1 in the final AP Poll.

The regular season ended with three one-loss teams in BCS contention: Oklahoma, LSU and USC. USC ended the regular season ranked #1 and LSU #2 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches' Poll. USC lost one triple-overtime game at California, which finished 8–6; LSU had a 12-point home loss against a Florida team that went 8–5; Oklahoma, which had been ranked #1 for most of the season, fell to #3 after suffering a 35–7 defeat in the 2003 Big 12 Championship Game to Kansas State, which finished 11–4. Controversy erupted when the BCS computers selected Oklahoma–LSU as the BCS title game. During the bowl games, USC had a convincing 28–14 win over #4 Michigan in the Rose Bowl while LSU beat Oklahoma 21–14 in the Sugar Bowl (designated the BCS title game). USC remained #1 in the final AP Poll with 48 of the 65 votes, and LSU was ranked, by contractual obligation, #1 in the final Coaches' Poll, though three coaches did not follow instructions and voted USC #1 in that poll as well.

Which of these two teams was the true National Champion. The answer is both because there was not a true National Championship playoff system.

And I submit that 3 NCs with the big boys trumps 6 with the lower tier little boys
LSU have a reason to be proud of there 3 NC but if you check my 1st post I stated that none of those 3 were NCAA National Championships.

Augusta Tiger, Agree with you on the move to FBS. In FCS GSU had a legitimate chance to play for a championship. Sure it was a lower level but Championships meant something. In FBS we're just a nobody that will never play in a National championship. At least not in my lifetime
Yes Georgia Southern is proud of its 6 NCAA National Championships which is 6 more than LSU has in football. Key word from the above statement is NCAA. With the way the FBS football Championship is set up today over half of the schools playing at the FBS level are in the same boat as Georgia Southern. GS fans knew this when our school moved up to FBS. Moving up was the right decision for Georgia Southern. Below is a list of only the schools that have moved up to FBS that Georgia Southern played in the FCS playoffs.
1. Arkansas State
2. Nevada
3. Middle Tennessee
4. AppSt
5. Idaho
6. Troy
7. Central Florida
8. UConn
9. UMass
10. Western Kentucky
11. Texas State
12. Old Dominion
quote:

UGA won’t schedule Southern anymore, and the other games are just one offs- no real rivalry development besides State.
No difference than LSU not scheduling ULL, ULM, or LaTech. Arkansas not scheduling Arkansas State. Alabama or Auburn not scheduling Troy, South Alabama or Troy.
You cannot denied that the rivalry with Troy is growing. This is on top of the long standing rivalry with AppSt.
quote:

Fast forward in the Sun Belt- GA Southern plays North Texas, Central Arkansas, New Mexico State, and several other “who cares” universities

North Texas moved to CUSA before GS joined the Sun Belt and the two have never played each other. Central Arkansas in still FCS and the last time GS played them was in the FCS playoffs. NMSU is the only team you listed that GS has played since moving to the Sun Belt. As far as drivable games Coastal Carolina, AppSt, Georgia State, and Troy. Also several of the out of conference games scheduled are drivable GaTech, Georgia, Auburn, NC State, UAB.
Georgia Southern 34
LSU 28

“I’m gonna say it one more time. We are Georgia Southern. Our colors are blue and white. We call ourselves the Bald Eagles. We call our offense the Georgia Power Company…and that’s a terrific name for an offense. Our snap count is 'rate, hike.' We practice on the banks of Beautiful Eagle Creek and that’s in Statesboro, Georgia–the gnat capital of America. Our weekends begin on Thursday. The co-eds outnumber the men 3-to-2. They’re all good looking and they’re all rich. And folks, you just can’t beat that…and you just can’t beat Georgia Southern. And you ain’t seen nothin yet.”

Been reading in another of Ya'll threads but as a GS fan did not want to post this in that thread. No LSU will not be on the cover of SI. The only way is if SI did a cover like the below.

I do not believe our game will make the cover of SI like the above game but I do know that the entire week before your game with Texas ESPN Sports Center will be talking about the Big Upset in Baton Rouge on Aug 31. But my guess is that most of you will not even want to watch Sports Center that entire week.

LSU doesn’t have an in-state rival. Most other LA state school grads are LSU fans. ULL seems to be the only exception for some reason. I was raised an LSU fan and have generations of family members who attended LSU.

I got a degree in natural science and a second one in technical writing.

So you are a Wal-Mart LSU fan since you did not attend LSU. Also you are still a Wal-Mart LSU fan since having a degree in writing you would have posted graduated instead of just attending LSU. Big difference between having attended and graduated from LSU.

Hey TigerLunatik, you're a smart man and I know why. Your probably wish you could be just like your avatar pic Danny McBride. I'm sure you idolize and look up to old Danny. Interestingly enough, Danny was born in Statesboro, Georgia- home of Georgia Southern. That's great and all, but just think, after next Saturday, you'll be idolizing and looking up to ALL of us in Statesbro.

oldfart check out the Bio. Believes in little green men and his job is to hit bombs.

He will more than likely blame little green men for LSU losing to Georgia Southern.

Nor did I.

Tell me, in what years has GSU gone undefeated in regular and post-season? So you're saying your team has never met expectations.
You must live a life of disappointment if that is your expectation.

1989
15-0

Tell me when LSU won 15 games in one year.

Bad analogy. Unfortunately LSU plays scared against Bama for some reason. LSU will not take this game lightly.
Well why is that is it because they already know Bama in kick them in the butt.

One of those expectations is to beat every team you should beat

Well there is the difference. Georgia Southern expectations is to beat who ever they play in football. Georgia Southern has been very successful at this.

Also in the Eyes of Georgia Southern fans GS is also an elite program with elite expectations.
quote:

Yeah, and Alabama gets up to play GSU like they do for SEC competition. Suuure.
Earth to 00 Tech Grad. LSU better get up for this game like they are playing Bama or LSU will lose. Your team has to play them one at a time. Georgia Southern has LSU in the crosshairs so if LSU is not ready they are in for a rude awaking.

A loss and Woodward probably fires Orgeron and makes Aranda the interim coach before the Texas game.
Not our problem since the game is already over and we won.

We’ve already been “Troyed.” I doubt the coach lets that happen again. His job likely depends on it not happening again.

Your not going to get "Troyed" by Georgia Southern your team is going to get educated in the true meaning of GATA. Then there will be a stadium full of fans eating humble pie. The humble pie will not be eaten by the fans wearing blue & white.
