My take that no one asked for:
I understand why he (and others) choose to do this, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. I’m just a fan and these guys owe me nothing, I get that. I’ll never be presented with an opportunity like they are so it’s hard to know how I’d react. I am old school when it comes to team events though.
They do owe their teammates and coaches something imo. It’s those guys that put them in position to shine, win awards, and to be draft picks in the first place. It feels like essentially quitting on the team which, in my mind, is not a great look from an NFL franchise’s perspective. How do you think Fulton feels after all he’s been through and had a great comeback season, but forced to sit out the bowl game. I’m sure he’s dying to play. It’d be supportive of him to help in his absence and show you have his back if you’re Greedy. Especially in a NY6 game which is a big deal.
I also think this whole trend opens a can of worms. This did not used to be the norm so maybe older players weren’t as smart, idk. Maybe they were tougher. But where does it end? It goes back to the “give an inch, take a mile” adage. If it’s to prevent injury for a top level draft prospect, why even play the games once you’re eliminated from playoff/CCG contention? They’re essentially meaningless anyway, right? Bama has some huge guys too, why play against them and risk injury? Why even play the last season of eligibility? I feel like this could get much worse in time.

So a national championship game is more important than his and his daughter's futures? Wrong. If the argument is that the Fiesta bowl is not as important as his "daughter's future," as was the suggestion I was responding too, then neither is the national championship game. And thus, any of you who appear to applaud his self-serving decision absent any other commitments and responsibilities should have no issue with him sitting out a national championship game as well. But obviously it sounds like you all would.
Fwiw I answered your question on this. I wouldn't like it, and I don't like his current decision, but I would understand it in both cases.

Selfish, show your skills against top competition!

It probably will. Guys used to stay for 4 or 5 years. Then they started leaving as Juniors. Now they leave after the regular season.

It’s a shame that he has made that decision because fair or not, he has forever tarnished his legacy at LSU with a large majority of the fan base
Because our fan base is filled with idiots.

The same fanbase that shits on Ben Simmons, a guy that reps LSU very well.

Everyone "understands it." It's not complicated. He's looking out for himself first and foremost and all other considerations are immaterial. That says something about someone's character to me. Perhaps it doesn't to you. That's what a message board is for though, people giving their opinions.

Very serious? What do you not get? Let me walk you through this, think like you are Greedy. You got an expensive education for free, drinks and covers free at bars throughout college, prolly your family taken care of, mad vag, semi- fame, come on. Think what you want, but I would much rather what you got!

I think it's small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. I see no reason to question his character when I can't tell you what's gone into the decision for him.
The only people who think these are low character moves are the fans of the specific team to which it's happening. No third party, particularly not the NFL, would question a move like this.

All things he could have recieved at many of the places offering him out of high school. As I mentioned earlier, LSU got more out of Greedy specifically than Greedy got out of LSU specifically.

I thought there might be a chance since we were playing in a NY6 bowl.
Oh well. It’s a shame but there is nothing you can do.

I'll go out on a limb and say they wouldn't do it based upon the mindset that Saban has gotten to buy into.
Posted on 12/2/18 at 8:59 pm to slackster
But he didn’t get that anywhere, he got it at LSU!

And in exchange he (and his teammates) generated millions and millions for LSU.

Jeez guys, get a grip. Some of y'all are acting like spoiled brats. Greedy is making the right decision whether you like it or not. Him and the other high profile recruits come to LSU with one ultimate goal. To get to the NFL. He has that now. Greedy is a first round lock as long as he is healthy. Why would he put himself in a situation to risk that? His signing bonus will be more than the majority of the baws on this site make in 10 years. I think Devin White should do the same thing.
To Greedy: Thank you for your time here at LSU and I will be cheering you on in the NFL.

Having the opportunity to be a college athlete is a blessing and privilege. From personal experience, no matter how many highlights and accolades you accumulate over your career, you always remember your last time competing for your school...hopefully it ends up being on a high note. Mine didn't, and there were no 2nd chances after 4 years of eligibility expired. His last time in uniform as a Tiger, he will remember a loss at a rival school's field where he was flagged for PI and unsportsmanlike conduct (albeit unjustly) on the 2nd to last play. No amount of money nor length of time will wash that shiity taste out of his mouth when he realizes he had a chance to make it better and go out on a better note as a college athlete/teammate.

These guys aren’t skipping the bowl to avoid injury. They’re selling out early to agents. Trading a month of practice and bowl game to get the money a month sooner.
