Believe it or not, there’s an argument for making Perkins a more well rounded player is both good for him and the team.

It didn’t work in game 1. Fine, move on.

I see coaches make mistakes every week and it’s not a “major red flag”. It’s trial and error and you don’t always know how something will play out until you see it in action.

What's going to be worse?

Fans bitching about how Perkins was used against Florida State, or fans bashing Perkins when teams scheme his impact out of the game as an edge rusher?

I'm still at a loss on why this wasn't the game plan against the #8 team in the nation. Use what worked last year, and test out new strategies with seeing Perkins in coverage on games like Grambling.

Imagine if Lawrence Taylor was told to sit in the middle of the field and shadow the QB all game. The Giants wouldn’t have won diddly.

That's fine, but experimenting with you best defensive player in game 1 against a top 10 team isn't something that I think is a good idea personally, especially if it is not working all of fall camp leading up to the game. Let him practice learning a new position against Grambling in week 2.

I think it's pretty concerning that none of the changes they made worked, and the changes that we wanted to see and heard all offseason about didn't happen.

Really wish they would have done that last week but hey at least the coaches recognized their failure and making the switch sooner than later.

That wasn't on Jones it was on Perkins and indirectly on House and Kelly. The defense was running a spill technique on those counters. The end is supposed to crash down and force the ball outside. Speights is supposed to fill the gap and take on the first blocker thru the hole and Perkins is supposed to come over the top and make the tackle. Perkins was slow to make his reads all night so instead of having 15 tackles they just ran the same running play the entire second half. It was obvious he still isn't comfortable making reads yet they still had him out there attempting to do it in crucial situations.
