Playboy once concluded their review of the Top 10 party schools (which didn't mention LSU anywhere else) with the remark "Where's LSU? We don't rank professionals."

That's a rumor that goes around every school. I've heard that about WVU for years

I personally saw the article in question. I realize you don't know me from anyone else, all I can say is that yes I did see it.

For instance.....

West Virginia University
Located in Morgantown, a small town with 20,000 permanent residents and about 25,000 college students, the school and its surroundings have an atmosphere that is decidedly collegiate. Although Greek life at WVU is not as prominent as in other party schools—the Greek population is about 15% of the student body—the fraternities and sororities that they do have are notoriously wild. Sports are also a big locus of student partying. A GQ article once named WVU’s sports fans the second most obnoxious out of all schools’ fans, comparing them to "soccer hooligans." Morgantown also boasts a wide variety of student-centered bars, all within easy access of campus via the town’s unique Personal Rapid Transit System. Aren’t convinced of WVU’s party school status? Consider this—in 1989, Playboy magazine purposefully excluded WVU from the top ten list, noting that the magazine does not rank professional partiers.

Here's another list. We're currently at #4 in Princeton Review too.

Here's Playboy's original list from Snopes which includes the quote you're talking about. FYI, WVU was listed at #7 that year. LSU was at #37

Proof

1) Not what we were talking about
2) That's from 2006
3) That doesn't even mention who made the list unless it was ABC
4) Here's another list from 2006. LINK Note #3 and #8. These things aren't exactly scientific

The one I saw was indeed from the mid to late 80's.

I guess it's possible that (just like certain sports mags) they put a different school in depending on the physical location of where the magazine was expected to sell. So in Morgantown the mags said WVU was the band of professionals, in BR it was LSU, etc. That would explain a lot of the confusion.

NO school in the country party's like LSU. The tailgates and game day experience are mystical. We also some of the hottest babes in the country.

Send some from ASU and we'll be made.

Um, the late 70's and early 80's would like to speak with you.
Ask your dad about those times at LSU.

Video must be from when Kevin Faulk ran back the opening kickoff. Before the phantom block in the back that never happened.

That screw-job call ruined the whole game

Who cares about who is a "party" school? They both are really fun campuses..However, the reason we drink are different. We drink with the beautiful women, and West Virginians drink until their women seem beautiful
