More than half of the rant "experts" said we wouldn't even be a .500 team in conference play...

Kyle Peterson, whom I respect a lot more than the average ranter, figured LSU as a 15-15 team.

This team is giving itself a chance right now to host, and within earshot of the National seed discussion. I think we need for South Carolina to get swept today to start being a feasible replacement for them.

We have a chance to replace Florida as the 3rd place SEC team.

Gotta sweep the Vols first.

We do that and we're back in the National Seed discussion. I agree that Coach has done a good job this season with all the new guys. I think his delay in making Romero the starter at catcher would be considered a mistake, but we all make them.

Only if we sweep them, imo. That's because we'd have a very good chance of being SEC regular season champions or at least co-champions.

If we win 2 out of 3, I think we'd have to advance deep into the SEC tournament to be talked about as a national seed. ETA: (This is where those mid-week losses really hurt us.)

Regarding Romero not starting until halfway through the SEC schedule, if Mainieri had benched Pap earlier, this place would have melted down since he's long been a favorite son on here.

Plus, I think Romero's receiving defense has improved greatly from the early part of the schedule thanks, in part, to Micah Gibbs working with him. I believe that delayed his being used as an every game starter.

I agree. I did not mean that taking 2 of 3 would get us a National Seed. It would get us back in the hunt.

I can see your points about Pap/Romero, but I still think that Coach waited too long to make the switch. Our best hitter and RBI machine had one AB at Texas A&M. Anyway, Romero has earned the job and the team is hitting on all cylinders.

It amazes me how bad some of you know baseball. They go into every series wanting to win 2 of 3. Doesn't matter what team. Sweeping two straight (one a two game series) with a chance at another is great.

This is 100% the result of the players, not Marinara

That is sooo cool misspelling his name like that. I bet you got laughs from the other 8th graders each and every of the 1,286 times you did that.

.283 after yesterday's shutout to Vandy and .269 in SEC play; and that's with Alonso's numbers included. Unless his bones mend in record time he's not playing this weekend.

Florida beats you with pitching and one of the best defenses in the country.

So when the team succeeds, it's 100 % because of the players, but when the team fails, it's 0% on the players and all on the coach...

Makes sense

I think coach Mainieri has done an excellent job this year when you consider how our pitching staff has digressed. our two week end starters have certainly underperformed against expectations and compared to last year and our relievers have been extremely inconsistent.

in no way will I give credit to coach Dunn for a great job. nor will I give PM any accolades for base running (whoever is responsible).

God...is it just impossible to give any credit around here?

And Tennessee beat Florida, so there is that.....
