Are you assuming that Byrd is leaving because he was told things he's didn't want to hear?
Absolutely...along with his inability to handle PM's method of delivering that message.
What are you assuming is the reason he is leaving?

I'm assuming he can't stand PM.
Every player gets criticism from their coach. At all levels. All the time. It's kind of their main purpose. So I don't see that as being involved in Byrd's decision at all.

Ochinko and Dean were signed by Smoke too. O left after that year and Dean would have too but he wanted to get the shoulder surgery and prove he could play the field somewhere.
Smoke recruited them, but they arrived on campus same time Mainieri did. Mainieri deserves credit for developing that talent and then bringing in that 2009 class to put that team over the top.
Now... does Mainieri throw players under the bus? Yeah, of course.

Agreed on both. I'm not trying to take credit away from PM there. He did an excellent job in '09. I even think he was doing fine this year from the A&M series onward. I defended him starting Poche game one. After that, fricking terrible.

That wasn't the first game of a Regional. You always start your ace. That being said, Poche was pitching well and nobody could have predicted his throwing to 1B meltdowns.

No argument there.

I just want to wipe that game from my memory.

I feel stupid for reading all 11 pages of this thread. What an abortion.
And PM is a jackass.

I don't think it's reasonable to quit the team because you "can't stand the coach". That's childish.
This situation says a lot more about Byrd than it does about Mainieri, IMO.

How is that childish? If anything, it shows some maturity. It had to take a lot for him to come to this decision. He knows he's a legacy and that he would be scrutinized. But he still understands that it's a bad situation for him and what's best for him is leaving. It's not like Mac who up and left mid year taking away a scholarship and chasing money.

"my generation" vjp819.
I'd be willing to bet I have shoes older than you.

I'm right there with you
I thought this thread went full retard by page 2, but then I got to Asllan's posts. That dude's got some problems.
Anyway, I don't see why everyone is so upset here. Paul is an a-hole, we all know this. Grayson didn't want to be miserable. They went their separate ways. Its really not that big of a deal. Believe it or not, players transferring in college athletics happens sometimes because the player and coach don't get along. It doesn't mean you need to fire the coach or that the player is a pussy. Its time to move on.
I just hope that we can fill out our infield next season.

Being tough on your players behind the scene is one thing but throwing them under the bus in public is chicken shite.
Just coming to post this above quote again. +1, poster.

It wasn't a bad situation for him. In fact, it was as good a situation for a young player as could be imagined. Where is there more opportunity at a place like LSU than there will be in 2016?
This was an emotional decision. So, unless you can point to something specific that would justify it, it is EXTREMELY childish and borderline pathetic.

While that was bad for LSU, it obviously was a logical move for him. He got to the draft earlier and it worked out for him.
You truly are looking at this backwards.

What the hell are you talking about? Are you saying an 18 year old doesn't deserve to be somewhere where he's happy? Are you saying he can't be successful anywhere other than LSU? Because otherwise there is nothing wrong with his decision.

Mac went from turning down a mill to come to LSU to possibly making millions in 2 extra years to just making 100k this year. Yeah. Real smart.

Some kids and their parents just don't understand money, simple as that.

No. I'm saying that the fact that he cant be happy at LSU because he has a personal issue with the coach is pathetic and childish.
I can guarantee you that he's leaving guys at LSU who feel the same way about PM but still enjoy the game and understand the opportunity they have at LSU. And I can guarantee that he will be joining guys on his next team that feel the same about that coach.
This was an emotional decision.

I didn't say it was smart. I said it was a logical business decision for a guy who wanted to be in pro ball and wanted the shortest path possible.
It wasn't an emotional decision.
Also, I think Marshall got 750k.

Sounded to me like he looked up, saw the ol' yellow dog coming down the road, stop signs waiving in the wiind, and was planting his feet as he for readied for that perfect shove.
