That was part of the issue. The other big one was lack of development and lack of talent on the mound

Bingo. This is what has plagued LSU for years now. We just don’t have the arms that the other top sec teams have trotted out there in recent years. L

Everyone was juicing in the 90s. College, Minors, MLB. Just how it was back then.

Just need more consistent hitting against quality pitchers. It sounds like that is what the OP is saying, not just dingers. We hit a lot of homers this year and look what that got us. Lot of K's and pop ups which resulted in too many games where we scored 1 run. CJJ will hopefully fix that mentality and our approach at the plate which has been terrible since Canizzaro left.

The only thing that changed after Cannizzaro left was the players and varying levels of experience year to year. The approach has been the same before, during, and after his time here. The biggest difference was that he was successful in convincing Mainieri to steal bases.

I have been saying this for years everytime someone complained about a hitting coach at LSU. Paul Maineiri had a hitting system that he wanted his teams to have and every hitting coach coached the players to that system.

I think it would be better if they were.

A lot of people don't realize it, but Gorilla Ball was as back as you'll find last year. 93 homeruns as a team with 8 different players hitting 5 or more homeruns.

2021 - 93 homeruns
2009 - 107
2008 - 100
2001 - 98
2000 - 96
1999 - 104
1998 - 157
1997 - 188
1996 - 131

I don't know about historic stats (pre-1977), which aren't on LSUSports.net, but I think last years HR totals is 9th all-time for team HRs.

If JJ can continue with these numbers and raise the BA floor of the team. LSU will be a dangerous offensive team next year.

188 home runs in 70 games is just ridiculous no matter what kind of bats and how much juice you are taking.

Gorilla ball is great but just timely hitting would be even better. Get more lead off hitters on and/or moving guys after walks is what wins games.
Also…PLEASE get a pitching coach that will not wear out the staff would be the icing on the cake.
