My dad died suddenly from a stroke at the age of 57, 15 years ago. Now if my immature self was able to deal with that and the fact I wasn't able to say goodbye, then CPM needs to retire after the season because he had 60 plus years with his dad and knew what was coming and had time to say that goodbye.

Boo fing hoo. PM has a job to do, if he can't do it, take an LOA, take another job in the Dept, he's doing a disservice to those kids if he's not going to be in to it.

he’s a grown man making a million plus per year to do a job. His dad was 90. There are construction workers who would be fired if they couldn’t get their head in the game at work, why is Paulie deserving of kid gloves treatment?
His dad was his mentor, not just in life, but with his job. That happens to be the case for me as well. My dad is 70, and still in relatively good health. With that said, I communicate with him almost daily. It’s a stronger relationship than your average father/son relationship.
Just acknowledge that.

just one bad year though? How many bad years have been saved by some out of the blue, miracle run? I think he just relies on that happening because it always does, but it hasn't this year.
This is stupid. How many ‘miracle runs’ does someone need to have before you acknowledge they are a good coach? Fresno State in ‘08 had a shite season, but they got hot and won the title. frick that, right?
Oregon State in ‘07 had a mediocre regular season. Pat Casey must suck.
You can’t attribute that much winning to miracle runs.
‘Yeah, the team sucked, they got lucky and went 21-5 down the stretch to finish 46-17.

These are legitimate excuses retard. You guys think every one of our hitters is supposed to be like Todd Walker and that every pitcher should be like Ben McDonald. Many of you just don’t understand the reality of baseball

it certainly shouldn't be used as an excuse for poor job performance. LTTiger
You disagree with this? If so you are in the minority. So I guess if you are an attorney and a younger atty loses a case because his head wasn't in it since his father died, you would be ok with that? Don't think so.
I love my family & am very emotionally involved. But you have to compartmentalize your life. Okay,Demie was a baseball coach and attended some games at LSU. But if that is clouding CPM's decision making he needs to go lie down on someone's couch and get some professional counseling, or retire. But he won't do that because now it has become more about the money IMO.

The tigers were not exactly tearing it up prior to CPM’s dads passing. We were 11-5 then. All against non conference teams. Even then CPM was using the excuse of excellent pitchers we were facing, to explain our pitiful offense.

Oh, bullshite! You’d have to be a sentimental fairy to let the passing of your 90 year old dad affect your job performance for more than a week, maybe two.

One more year. That seems to be the definition of schizophrenia "doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome." What is expected from one more year?
That could have been done last year with the same results.

Give him one more year to see if he can make it right. He’s earned that opportunity.
These idiots calling for his head would run Tony Larussa out of town, if we had him.

Everyone deals with it differently. He didn't only lose his dad, his kids lost their grandfather and so forth. I would expect it's a strain on him. He and his dad are HOF coaches, so almost undoubtedly they were very close. But he should just get over it because you're upset about the baseball program. Forgot the program revolves around what you want. Way to be sympathetic. What a jerk.
Firstly, any adult with a 90 year old parent is way ahead of the curve. At that point, you’ve got to be mentally prepared for what might occur at any time.
Secondly, personal issues have to be put on the back burner for a professional when it comes to your job. Paul gets paid a shite ton of money to lead this team. Get it done.
And yes, i’m very sympathetic to Paul for his loss.

His dad's passing has nothing to do with team poor performance. He's a seasoned veteran coach and his team is just playing like crap. We have great pitcher's throwing batting practice. Our batters can only strike out or hit pop ups. Something is wrong but all the firing talk is assenine. Everyone should just swallow the pill and see what comes next. No one is firing Paul.

Look because of injuries, LSU's three weekend starters are to be charitable Sunday pitchers at best. Hilliard and Walker gave fans hope their first year. Neither have returned to their freshman form after injury. Henry especially and somewhat Hill showed promise but are injured now this year. LM hasn't shown much promise period. The bullpen is a mess. Hess was never a really good Friday night guy.
I hope I am wrong and LSU heats up here in May as they have in the past. I don't see them as capable at this point.
Next year most of the everyday players that actually are good hitters will no longer be on the team. Perhaps Cade, Dugas, Bianco, Willis and others will step up and some current pitchers as well.I don't think it is looking good.
We will all see what happens this year and next. I'm not the biggest PM fan out there, but I would give the man two more years to see if he can turn this around. The injuries have been brutal this year.

I agree with two years, this one being the first of 2. And it has not gone well.
