He walked on the field a full grown man as a freshman. We are very lucky to have him. Will be great to see him develop!

He needs to go North and South. This isn’t High School where he could run around people. Needs to learn to use his size. But, yes this kid is a freak and will be great.

He will set every LSU career TE record before walking off campus.

They need to get him more vertical in the middle of the field

Gilbert is very good and he’s going to have a big impact, but Stingley had it all day one. We may never see another freshman who comes in as ready as he was.

Gilbert showed he still has work to do with a drop and the play where he gave ground instead of pushing for the 1st down on a 3rd down catch. But it’s early and I bet he learns and is a flat-out beast down the stretch.

Thats just stupid. Stingley made plenty of freshman mistakes in games 1 and 2

Stingley had some learning to do as well, the Bama game was a good example.

He is a grown man for sure. I like how they’ve been using him in the passing game. He’s a coverage nightmare and I think as the offense evolves they’ll find more ways to exploit his matchups. I don’t recall him dropping a pass.

Stingley was the best player on a National Championship defense as a true freshman. It’s not an insult to say Gilbert is a half-step below that.

He is the only true freshman to be named consensus all-American on defense in the history of college football and the only true freshman in the history of LSU football to start every game.

Oh...and he would have been drafted #3 overall if he was eligible.

Gilbert is not there yet.

And again, that is no insult to Gilbert. He should be freshman All-American at TE if he stays healthy.

Stingley was one of the 3-4 best CB in college football last year. Could make an argument that he was the best.

Even if Gilbert is the best TE in CFB(he won’t be), it’s not as impressive, as CB is much much harder to master

He dropped a third down that would have been a first against State
