Gilbert may need more help than that. We are going to have to hit better. And PM is going to have to not "small ball" us out of innings.

Newman is the X-factor for LSU now.

The CWS l9ves senior redemption. Ideally, Gilbert for 5, Newman for 2, and Hess to close.

Get the lead and use Newman to bridge the game 1-2 IP to Hess. If he struggles we ride Hess. Gilbert needs to P the game of his LIFE tomorrow.

We can do this!

Would not be surprised to see poche pitch an inning if needed.

the pitching match up is obviously intriguing, but the key for LSU tomorrow will be at the plate. I believe they'll need 7-8 runs to win this thing.

We need a solid 5 from Gilbert, 2 or 3 from Johnny Wholestaff/Newman and 1-2 from Hess.

LSU is going to be up 11-2 before he sees the mound.

We're good.

Will Poche be available for a couple of innings? Just wondering. I'm assuming not, but there could potentially be a scenario where he throws 2 innings in place of his bullpen day, and then is still ready to throw Game 2 of the championship series.

Mainieri has been awful so far during the CWS.

Nah

Gilbert needs to get us 5 or 6

Newman, Bush and Peterson all go with very short leashes... hopefully put together 2-3

Hess for the final 2

I don't like giving Newman Bush or Peterson the responsibility to close it out... they're way too inconsistent, and Hess is unstoppable

If Gilbert can get you 6 I think you turn it straight over to Hess and hope he has enough in the tank to finish. If Gilbert gets your 4-5 I think you have to hope Newman, Bush, Peterson, Bain gets you 2-3 and then turn it over to Hess.

Ideally, we blow them out, don't have to use Hess and throw Hess G1 of the championship series followed by Poche and Lange.

I asked this in another thread... Any chance Poche is available for 2 innings tomorrow as a bullpen day? Then have him ready to go in Game 2 of the championship series? I don't think Paul would do that, but just wondering if it will be considered at all.

If not, I'm assuming Poche is ready as the Game 1 starter on 4 days rest.

Hess isn't starting any games. Why does this keep being brought up?

Absolutely he is. He doesn't throw 95 and he can handle 30 pitches and be ready for Monday.
