The late great Lewis Grizzard, an alum of Georgia, said that people used to say if you drove through the campus of Georgia they'd throw a diploma in your car, he said that wasn't true, you had to stop.

US News & World report is a pretty well respected publication when it comes to college rankings.

They ranked Georgia 58th nationally with a score of 51. LSU is ranked 130th with a score of 32. I graduated from LSU and I'm sure there are certain colleges inside our university that are better than Georgia. But overall Georgia is a better overall institution that LSU. We can't deny that.

I am in business so I typically look at Business Week for their undergrad rankings. The reason for this is that they typically put more emphasis on recruiting surveys and interviews with execs at actual companies. But really, as far as being a better school goes, it really depends on what you go to school for. In business, for example, UGA is higher ranked by both US News and Business Week. Business Week has UGA at 44 and LSU at 90. UGA is obviously helped by having a major city within relatively close proximity whereas LSU doesn't have that luxury. In law, UGA is a good bit higher as well.
If you go by overall university rank, UGA is ranked a good bit higher by US News. But if you were going to major in engineering, construction management, or perhaps something in wildlife then LSU would be your bet. It depends on what you want to major in and what size market you want to work in.

Overall, UGA is ranked as a better school and Athens is an awesome college town. One of the best in America. It is also harder to get into UGA. But LSU graduates make more money on avg than UGA grads. Salary So basically that $25,000 someone pays a year to go there is kind of a waste.

With every new revelation that spews out of Guilbleaux's mouth, I hate him just a little bit more.

US News overall rank UGA #58 LSU #130
US News undergraduate business rank UGA #33 LSU #80
US News MBA programs UGA #49 LSU #62
US News law schools UGA #32 LSU #88
Business Week undergrad UGA #44 LSU #90

Conversely,
I would think that LSU would be better in engineering (as UGA doesn't have engineering), construction management, and some other more specialized programs. But UGA is hardly a liberal arts school.
The bottom line is that you can get a good education anywhere. It's all about making connections and networking.

UGA doesn't have an engineering program.

UGA might be ranked higher and it probably is a better overall academic institution but i dont give a shite...I would rather be a tiger at LSU any day who cares what the rankings are it is all about what is the best school for YOU!

I am an LSU fan from the heart, but if you take the overall rankings, UG is def. better. Sure there are some areas that LSU is better, but not in any where close in an overall comparison.
La is last in alot of aspects, including schools.
Here is a little tidbit that I am sure pisses off my LSU friends quite a bit.... Texas A&M is a much better school that LSU. And to pile on Univ. of Texas is much better than Tex A&M.

Rankings are nice and all, but like I showed earlier, we make more money. Factor in the fact that Lousiana probably pays less for jobs than Georgia and it is an even bigger gap.

UGA is a better academic school overall, but in all honesty, this is all that matters...

also LSU's campus> UGA's campus

Ranking schools is just another list. It is very similar to ranking football teams upon recruits.

These rankings fall in love with the recruits. Those that get the better students are usually ranked higher.

I went to Temple (I know you couldn't tell). Our universities ideals was to try to educate the underprivileged. Think that is going to help the rankings or hurt the ranking?

Having a school with a higher ranking does not make that a "better" university. It is all relative.

dont see whats wrong with the statement. uga is definitely the better school. as for college towns, i love athens but have never been to BR. form what i hear, its great, so its a debatable statement obviously. what is so wrong that he picked a side?
