It's one man's opinion........and a stupid one at that.

It's all about what the person likes and wants.

Law grad avg starting salary UGA $100,000 LSU $65,000

There is one problem with a comparison like this, much like comparing starting salaries at Ivy League scools versus state universities. Most of those grads get jobs in large cities like New York, where the cost of living is so high that they have to pay them much more just to survive. Cities like Atlanta and Dallas pay more as well for the same reason. Has NOTHING to do with the quality of education. I assure you a law education at LSU is comparable with any.

You go to UGA to get a WIFE---you go to Georgia Tech to get an EDUCATION.

What is GG writing about academics for anyway? He should stick to what he knows even less about and is paid for--sports.

How do the measure the "overall academics" of a school?

They can't, and they really don't even try to do it in any valid way. So said the president of Stanford in a letter to US News and World Report when it issued its annual college rankings a few years back. His letter essentially said the rankings are bullshite and meaningless. In that year's rankings, Stanford was ranked the #1 school in the country, so he was not just complaining because of his school's ranking.

The above being said, it is entirely possible that Georgia is a better school than LSU. I don't know. But I can guarantee you that Guilbeau has no fricking clue whatsoever about it either. It's just his daily dig at LSU.

Any idiot can sit on a street corner and say a million stupid arse things. Occasionally, one of them will be true, but that does not make the idiot any smarter. It's just random chance that something he says will be right. Same is true with Guilbeau.

UGA Engineering = GT Engineering > LSU Engineering (sans petro)

now, I have no problem managing/bossing GT grads with my LSU degree.

US News & World report is a pretty well respected publication when it comes to college rankings.

No, it's not. Its rankings are the very ones that give college rankings such a bad reputation. For example, one of the criteria used by USN&WR to rank schools is the amount of alumni contributions they receive. How in the frick is that relevant to the quality of the education the school provides?

My brother-in-law is from Georgia, went to Georgia, and went to business school at Georgia. I've been there often and it's fun. It's a very good school academically as well.

But so what? I think the laid back lifestyle that once resided in Athens when my brother-in-law went to school there is long over. Now it's about rich Atlanta kids blowing coke and growing mustaches in an attempt to by funny and cool. The people that go to school there are tools, straight up. I would never trade my experience at LSU because the academics aren't as highly regarded as Georgia.

LSU was great and the standards are getting tougher every year. And a gameday at LSU makes UGA look like a joke.

i grew up in Br and live in athens. the poster who attended both schools has a great perspective, obviously.

uga vs lsu academics: uga IS more selective. yes grades in GA are inflated due to hope, but that's why colleges use the sat. uga's latest entering fresh class had an AVG 2-pt sat of 1300+. that's elite. but as several pointed out it, as far as future success it basically boils to what you want to major in, and who you know vs. what school you went to.

uga vs lsu campus: very different aesthetics but both beautiful. one advantage uga has is the way they get money. the major construction projects uga has been able to finance over the last 10+ years are just unbelievable. i'm talking probably 12 large new buildings including a 'student learning center' that is huge and first class modern, a whole new set of dorms grouped as a 'village' and several new parking decks.

BR vs Athens: athens is very cool and fun and funky. BR has the excitement of a big city, a state capital and a unique, fun culture. it boils down to whether you prefer tall, leggy blondes or petite, naughty, brick-house brunettes.

as for anybody who says either BR or Athens blows, well there's always the outlier in taste. that's why porn sites have 'fat' and 'granny' options.

Look, saying that school "A" is better than school "B", is like saying that a brassiere is better than a jockstrap. They both perform a similar function. But the statement is only true if you happen to be configured in such a way that a jockstap won't give you what you need and a brassiere will.

Oh no GA is a better school than LSU!!!?

90% of the point of college for the majority of people there is having fun, drinking, and co-eds.

So who cares what US news says? It's a liberal arts education!!!!

That is probably true, but who cares what the best school for him and is daughter is? His opinion is what makes it so.

I would go eat at Last Resort every weekend if I lived in Athens, that's for sure. And that REM Automatic place that has home cooking is great, but I can't' remember the name. And I love Izzo's but Barberito's is damn good too. Also like the bar that they barbeque outside and like a basement. Athens is fun no doubt about it. I would transplant the people at LSU though because I like them more.
