Im wondering if there is a way to get The Bama-A&M game without a satellite dish Saturday. A few years ago before the digital switch you could pick up those channels on just an antenna. Is there anyway to do it without dropping a large amount of money on a satellite dish? I have a modern big screen. not exactly sure model and make.

Thanks.

sure...I do it every saturday with a $9 set of rabbit ears that I got from the wall marks...don't ever let anyone tell you that you need a fancy antenna to get perfect HDTV absolutely free...

FWIW, you can actually pick up about 10 or so different channels from campus and get all of the major networks plus others...digital switchover made a lot more channels available with an antenna....

Yeah just get a digital antenna (I think that's what you have to have.) you will also be able to catch the Oregon Tennessee game on ABC.

I have trouble picking up CBS in BR on my Leaf antenna but get other channels, such as PBS, in beautiful HD. The problem is apparently because WAFB broadcasts via VHF rather than UHF and the best reception is on an antenna at least half the wavelength (the Leaf is too small). Rabbit ears or an old-fashion roof-top antenna are actually much better.

HD antenna is what you need. You can make one fairly easily. We did. Works fine.

Like others are saying, cheap HD antenna at the wal marks. Just pay attention to which direction you need to point it. It will make a big difference in reception and number of channels you pick up.

This
Don't buy an expensive HD Antenna for WAFB. It wont work. Cheap rabbit ears is what you need for WAFB.

Link from WAFB website

Also you must have a digital TV obviously.

Yep, get an old school cheap set of the 4' long kind. And I like to have a 50' or so long coax cable so that you can find a good, high spot to get reception without having to keep them right next to the tv.

Ok, so which direction from campus is the best for WAFB?

Is that the tower on the North side of campus that is located at the station on Highland? Or is that a diffferent statiin? I have driven by there a hundred times but never remember what station that is.

Thanks

Keep in mind a lot of the earlier HD TVs were only displays with regard to digital TV; in other words some don't have DTV tuners built in....check your owners manual. Otherwise everything posted is right on!

I watch lots of OTA TV for various reasons. I have yet to find a better antenna than the Zenith Silver Sensor. Those may be hard to find, but anything with this general design is going to work well, will be easy to set up, and will take up very little space,

No, that's WBRZ, the ABC affiliate. According to the link posted above, the WAFB tower is south of campus on River Rd., but I always assumed it was at their station on Government St.
