It's difficult to tell if Cannon really made it over the line from the photo of it. I seem to recall that he said that the referee marked the ball down where he was pushed back to.

In 1995 (when overtime had not yet come) Gerry Dinardo decided to kick an extra point in the back end of the game against South Carolina instead of going for two and the win.

That was definitely a bizarre game. Going into the game EVERYBODY thought that LSU would rush for 500 yards in it--seriously, the SEC Player-of-the-Week for three straight weeks prior was the running back of the team that had played against the Gamecocks--and LSU had two 100-plus-yard rushers in the so-called "Thunder-and-Lightning" duo of Kevin Faulk and Kendall Cleveland. HOWEVER, LSU inexplicably came out passing to start the game, and the Gamecocks kept stopping the pass. LSU's Shedrick Wilson was the Tiger's lone offensive bright spot, despite a sprained ankle. He was very motivated in the game because the year before a professor of his--a South Carolina grad--made a big deal after the Gamecocks beat LSU in Tiger Stadium.

Oh yeah, like I'm the only guy whose ever been pissed at Jamie Howard. Dude was horrible until his senior year.

I wonder if you said harsh words about Lee last year.

Saban GUILTY!! Lack of control over the team, playing WAY, WAY, WAY down to the level of competition, poor game management skills, poor game prepertion, throwing his QB & other players under the bus.

Booty. Not Saban.

I havent read all of the posts, but did anyone mention Jerry Stovall's 2 losses in one of our best years. We finally beat the Bear in a masterfully defensed game at Legion Field 20 to 10 then of course we would have a let down the next week and lose to a Emery Bellard coached Miss St team led by the infamous John Bond and The Belaire High school kicker in Dana Moore. Next week we come out and absolutely humiliate Bobby Bowden and his Seminoles in the Fog game which had the winner going to the Orange Bowl (thanks to some fine negotiating by Bob Brodhead, who by the way imho was one of the best ADs at LSU in my lifetime). Follow that great victory with a loss to Tulane secured by an ole class mate of mine Tyrone Smith defensive back who intercepted Alan Risher after Reggie Reginelli had scored for Tulane on a 4th down screen pass that instead of getting just the 1st down, he scored. My friends those 2 losses within 4 weeks after 2 of the greatest victories still stick in my craw after all these years.

Does anybody remember when LSU played Texas A&M when Hallman was coach?

quote:

Texas A&M won the toss and elected to defer and kick off. Hallman insisted that the defense was on the field first and wouldn't accecpt the deferment and A&M got the ball to start the game and the 2nd half.

That really happened.

are you kidding me?? someone please tell me this did not happen

No, Saban owns a lot of the worst LSU moments, but when Matt Jones threw two back-to-back Hail Mary's, scoring on the last one, and costing LSU the West Championship was sickening.

'88 game vs Miami.......they brought thier live mascot............

Followed in the second half by a blizzard. I have hunted in the winter in Michigan and Iowa and never been as cold as the second half of that blowout. I think it was the last time they scheduled the band reunion on the night of a big game.

My relatives who were at the game say emphatically that he scored and that the UT fans were at first stunned by no scoring signal before becoming elated.

Here's a good story of the game: LINK. In the comments section after the article, someone says that they watched the game on TV. LSU records don't list the game as having been broadcast on TV, but perhaps highlights were available. Anyone know if a clip of the two-point conversion attempt is available anywhere?
