I just don't see this well known reputable memorabilia shop put there name and reputation on the line and sale a fake. I Have done my research and this shop has been around for years and has a solid reputation. I'm also not seeing any evidence of this being a fake. If you do please let me know what your catching that I'm not. Thx

Are the clear part of the "S" and "U" decals covering part of the holes they are next to, or is the lighting playing tricks on me and I am looking at the inside of the helmet through the holes?

I'd say it's legit. I have Longerians I got from the gift shop. Has his name inside as well as a separate number decal. The LSU sides decals do cover the holes. The numbers are also on the back. It has some battle marks as well. I have one from the 2005 season that has some wear also. It was from a back up line backer. 42 Metrailer. These helmets are used in practice as well so that where the markings come from if it's from a walk on or a 3rd stringer.

From the pics, it looks real to me. Check your mill size on the decals (LSU authentic decals are very thin) also check the number decal on the back. The numbers should have a slight develed edge all the way around.

I'm not sure id pay 200 for a practice jersey that I didn't know for a fact who's it was. That could be a HS jersey for all you know. But I you know the guy and trust him, it's your money.

Helmet is nice though

Also do some research on that Jersey. I know LSU went to Nike jerseys back in the mid to late 90s. Not sure how long they have been wearing Nike practice Jerses but do know they are wearing them now. Might want to find out when LSU started using Nike Pratice Jerseys as that is a russel

Found a pic from 2003 of Amp Hill and he I wearing a Nike Pratice Jersey.

Thanks for the info. I am bringing a couple of my nephews to the Baton Rouge Rush this weekend hosted by Michael Clayton. Maybe I can find out a little more then. As for as the helmet goes, I will be talking to the equipment department tomorrow. They will shine some more light on the authenticity.

This helmet does not have the correct safety warning decal. Correct safety warning decal is basically clear with red stripe with white letters on top. Writing on the decal is in black. Decal is not white. However, warning safety decal on helmets sold in the gift center are white. Good chance helmet may have been used in a game but not 100% even it came from the gift center.

As for as decal placement, the decals in 2011 were in different locations than 2010 and older years. You can look at highlight videos or game pictures and tell this. In 2011, the safety warning decal was on the left side. The american flag was over the state flag on the right. In 2010 and 2007, the safety warning decal was on the right with the state flag on top of it. The american flag was on the left. Didn't check any other years. Point is that you can't always use most recent helmet decal placement to determine if a helmet is legit. Could be from years gone by and still be legit. One way to be 100% sure is to get one from a player who gives it to you after the game on the field. Might be hard to do though.

I purchased the helmet and decided to pull up some of the padding on the inside, and under the padding next to the ear hole was a 44 label sticker. Also when I angle the back of the helmet in light, it shown an adhesive mark that looks like a 4 would have once been placed there. This is looking more like a Copeland helmet. The only thing throwing me off is the 118 label sticker that is also on the inside.

When they refurbish helmets they can put any number they want.

I have a game used helmet signed by Michael Clayton but it's definitely not his helmet.

I would say it is a legit LSU helmet. Now was it game used or just a practice helmet who knows.

Here is my experince with LSU helmets.

I have a yellow(traditional) helmet that I got from the gift shop. It has Niswanger on the inside(not written but with the old school type set impression sticker).

At 2008 fan day they were selling the white helmets used in the 2007 Tulane game. I bought one that had "15" on the back, but it had a o-line face mask. I pretty much knew it was not Matt Flynns but I wanted the o line face mask to match the facemask on my yellow helmet. While looking they had at least 5 helmets with "15" on the back.

Guess my point is just becaue it has "4" does not mean it was worn by Blue or Copeland. It could be a practice squad guys helmet and they just stuck "4" on the helmet before LSU sold it.
