Generally, you pop up when you swing late, even on good fastballs to hit. Ground balls generally happen when out in front on offspeed pitches. This is obviously not a rule, but it's where the thought comes from.
Either way, the pitcher is selecting which pitches to throw therefore the confusion. That's the whole point. He mixes it up and will cause you to be either early or late. Pop ups and sloppy ground balls always indicate some damn good pitching especially when it is happening to a consistently good hitting team like lsu

So no pitcher intentionally pitches high in the zone?
Not unless you want to give people souvenirs in the bleachers.

everyone is going crazy in this thread so i'll just post my couple comments and bow out to bed:
1) they made a whole board for you arse holes to post on called the SEC rant. If you want to come have a baseball discussion then bring it on, but coming in to post nanas and shite you can GTFO
2) no problem with starting Glenn at all if he is going to do so next week and the regional
3) who is bitching about the other team throwing their ace? of course they threw their ace game 1 of a series... that's what you do 90% of the time
and most importantly 4) starting Stevenson over Foster or Moore is a terrible idea, don't give me the defense bullshite excuse. There is no excuse for having him out there at this point of the season.
I won't even get into Laird's crap arse slap hitting because I think he has earned his shot and his balance of reasonable offense and strong defense is good enough to warrant a starting spot. The same cannot be said for Stevenson.

Because a good pitcher shut us down. We haven't hit any good pitches all year, just feasted on scrubs and scored all our runs after the 6th inning
Yep, I hate our fans, bunch of fricking idiots, except the boxtards

Laird reminds me of Willie Mayes Hayes from major league. Fast as he'll but pops everything up. Guy needs to get the ball on the ground and leg them out.

You're right. I hope this is a wake up call. Big games are coming real soon.

More groundballs mean they're keeping the ball down and likely inducing weaker contact. More fly balls mean the ball is up and easier to hit. That doesn't mean all ground balls are hit weakly and all fly balls are hit well. But when it comes to pitching analysis or prospect analysis a higher ground ball rate is widely considered better than a high fly ball rate.

Should start making him do the push ups

Fair enough. Learn something new everyday. But I stand by my post on its not just a coincidence that a very good batting team just gets fooled like that out of nowhere. It was the result of good pitching. You saw the same thing vs Other team Aces as well

I saw somewhere earlier in the thread that one guy was surprised we got 18 runs on Saturday, and now we couldn't hit shite. Well, obviously teams don't always play at the same level, they rise and fall. Always.
