No coach in their right mind would "cut" guys right before postseason play starts. Your other players are their teammates and friends, and you're risking losing your team if one or more of the guys was very well liked.

Mainieri didn't cut anybody. He just told three guys that aren't on the travel roster that they may not have a place on the team next season.

They were never going to see those guys outside of practice since they aren't on the travel/postseason roster and school is out.

You don't understand college baseball if you think that. It happens every year for postseason rosters. A lot of times it's helpful. Freshmen pitchers start their summer leagues early.
