The baseball program? Yes. Did the weather magically change in 2010 to begin drawing those kind of players in spite of the program? Did all the other top programs in the state just decide not to recruit good players that year?

As of a couple days ago, he has dropped to 68th overall prospect. Good but also no longer as great as last November when he signed with LSU.

He is the 31st ranked HS player and isn't even the best player in the state anymore.
I don't think he is as much a lock to go pro as he was before.

I agree we have a better shot now than in November. But it's still an extreme longshot. I fully understand more players will make it to college now. I first suggested as such with Bregman early last Spring. But his situation was very different for several reasons.
Do you think Williams will be picked somewhere around 68th?

Do you think he goes higher or lower than 68th? What range?
ETA: My point is slot for the 68th pick is 820k.

as of now, who knows. But if he is dropping right now, only a few weeks away from the draft, it is not a good sign for his draft stock.
He is 68th as of right now. Prob will drop over the next few weeks. I don't see him going higher than 3rd or 4th round now.

And I do agree his stock has dropped to a point that if he takes a hard line stance on a big bonus demand ("give me 2 million or else") then it is likely he will drop like a rock and end up here. I just haven't seen anything to suggest that is the case.

He is def not making a move either way right now which is usually not a good thing, however, I have faith!

I believe that with money as tight as it is now, they're going to try to get a little more "sure" of a pick than Williams. He's still got a lot of holes in his swing and is very raw.

San Diego has a good baseball program, but the city is really awesome, that alone is very attractive.

It's gone from 99.9% lock to 95% lock IMO.
You are getting your hopes way up on a guy. This reminds me so much of Joey Gallo.

After about the 20th pick, most high school players picked are pitchers. It's ten times easier to scout and grade pitchers at the HS level. Hitters don't get popular again till the late 3rd rnd or so. Obviously, this is just a generalization to give people hope. He gawn.

Sure, but it was obviously an anomaly...even for the very best programs or the greatest of cities. The 14th overall pick? That's just crazy. Can you imagine what the reaction would be here?

Two names that aren't talked about much but I am excited about are Parker Bugg (6'6" righty) and Danny Zardon (has a badass name).

It's a very good class with several good bats that should make it to campus and some big projectable pitchers. Whitty RHP 6'5 230, Palladino RHP (juco) 6'9 270.

I can't wait to see Palladino on the hill. He's going to be an impressive sight

Nola, Glenn, and a truckload of other pitchers are available next season. Our pitching staff will be aces in 2014
