That statement is an example of what you were talking about. “Competing” meaning having a chance to win didn’t apply to that game because we never had a chance to win the game but shortly after “competing” meant we played hard and didn’t get blown out. So it’s a definition that’s intentionally vague so that it can be moved around and altered as needed to support whatever moral victory they’re trying to push.

AU fans have really followed their MBB team in recent years, especially this year. Good for them. What Bruce Pearl has done to build a program and support at a place where there never has been is amazing.

Until he proves differently, I’m in the camp that Woodward feels zero pressure or sense of urgency when it comes to men’s basketball. The state of this program says so. This is a poorly coached team top to bottom. His recruiting has been ok but his approach to player development and game planning is abysmal. What’s worse is the apathy from the fan base and total lack of confidence in the situation improving.

It’s amazing that we’re last to understand how to build a sustainable program the way Auburn, Bama, Houston and others have. We just don’t have anybody in the admin who has their finger on the pulse of what modern college bball is.

Unfortunately, that has been the case LONG before McMahon's arrival. It's been a constant for LSU basketball over the last (nearly) 40 years.

Where do you bet. Everywhere I'm on MBB game lines during regular season come out after all or most of the games today are played.

It was a 5 point game with under 4:00 to go. LSU then had a foul, 2 FT's for Alabama, follow by an LSU missed shot, and 2 more FT's for Alabama that essentially put it out of reach. But I would consider a 5 point game under 4:00 is having a "chance" to win.
No, trailing all game by double-digits before ultimately losing by 7, but "beating" a 17.5 spread is not "competing". But it was a single digit game pretty much the whole way through until Alabama pulled ahead by 11 with 2:30 to go. Even then, LSU was able to get it back to 6 points with just over 1:00 to play.
I could see a scenario where it's a 4-5 point game under 4:00 tomorrow night. It's going to take a similar effort on the glass that LSU gave Saturday. And while I think this team shooting a bunch of 3's is NOT the recipe for success offensively, you have to think they are going to make more than 3-4 at home.
