What's interesting about Reid is he is scoring all these points while playing with a relatively easy amount of effort. Watching him on the court last night it didn't even look like he was trying.

Wait until we play a marquee team and he's fired up...might see him drop 50.

Calm right the frick down. He is definitely a much better shooter than Simmons, but Simmons was #1 overall for a reason. Dude is the most rounded player since LeBron. He was kind of a punk here, but the guy is absolutely legit. None of this is insulting Reid. He looks fantastic. You're just comparing him to one of the best young players in the NBA.

You said absolutely nothing to support your argument. Simmons was picked #1 because of his potential(height and athletic ability) not his immediate production. Reid is already a better offensive player than Simmons and that will never change. Simmons has the edge as a pure passer though. Now Zion is a fricking animal and should be the next great player in the league. He’s insanely athletic @275lbs

Looks great.

Am I the only one that feels he’s very clunky and not very smooth? I’m not taking anything away from him whatsoever. Kid looks to be a weapon. Looking forward to seeing him all year. Hope he doesn’t feel like he will need to do too much when in conference play and better teams with better defense

Slight Edge as a rebounder for Simmons
Push as a ball handler. Naz can handle the rock well.

He’s not far and away better like some think

Man, it is not often that I agree with a lot of your takes, but you are spot on with this one and is exactly what I was thinking the whole time reading this thread before getting to your post.

As to those saying they don't get the hate for Simmons when he was here; I think it was two big reasons, whether they were legit or not. One, I think most hated him for what they perceived was a piss-poor attitude by Simmons that just seemed to not care, especially about LSU or even being in college. This was obviously re-affirmed some by comments made in the documentary and after leaving LSU. Two, I think a lot of fans blamed him in part for not getting LSU to the tournament that year. Obviously most, if not all, of the blame needs to be placed at the feet of Jones and the coaching staff; but I think some viewed that as good as Simmons was (especially what he was hyped to be) that he should have been able to put the team on his shoulders and will them to the tournament in spite of the coaching failures. What most don't get though is that coaching plays such a huge role in the college game and isn't like NBA where a player, a la LeBron, can make or break a team regardless of the coach.

will never understand the hate Simmons gets among the LSU fanbase.

Simmons never seemed to put forth a lot of effort, and fans were expecting what they are seeing Simmons do in the NBA. Let's face it the guy was just killing time here. At least I can say I got to see Simmons play in college.

He is very good.
As far as fluidity, John Williams was one of the most fluid big men we have ever had come through here.

He's damn good already, but to me the best part is he sometimes looks like he hasn't quite grown into his body/size yet, I think he's only going to get a lot better. We are going to wreck the SEC this season, assuming we can figure out how to not leave so many shooters open.

Simmons is a better:

rebounder - ABSOLUTELY FALSE. LSU has better rebounders on this team so there isn’t as much need for him to play inside that much. They doubled UNC. They rarely won the rebounding stats with Simmons.
He is MUCH MUCH MORE PHYSICAL THAN SIMMONS EVER WAS.
passer - sure. Not as much need though. He definitely can handle the ball.

ball handler - he isn’t a deficient ball handler for a guy that is 6’10 250.
athlete

Naz is a better:

shooter - scorer with either hand in every way shape and form.

Funny how you left off defense. Simmons was a liability.

So, he didn't want the college experience. Would you want to goto college for one year when you know you're good enough to be a multi millionaire in the NBA? He didn't dislike LSU, he just didn't want to be in college at all.

i wonder if you realize Simmons averaged 12reb and 5 ast per game

. There were Zero Players worth a shite on that team. So your point is moot. This guy is surrounded by multiple first round picks. He is playing the exact role he is asked. He can block, rebound and pick and pop. He isn’t asked to sit in the post and rebound because he can pull his man away from the goal while our other talented big men can get the boards.
Simmons wasn’t a threat to shoot from beyond 7’ so they could sit in the lane and kill LSU rebounding.
Liability.

And what about on defense, were players get 90% if their rebounds

Did I say he disliked LSU? His expectations were different from the fans expectations. I am not knocking the kid just trying to answer the posters question, but I do appreciate your input.
