Excuse the base, I know it sucks. Grass is impossible to get right. The wall was made of foam board, carved to look like rocks. Painted with acrylics.

The soldier is 1/35 resin. Can’t remember the manufacturer. My first true figure kit. Since then, I have quite a few in the stash.

Painted with Ammo by Mig Acrylics. Excellent paints.

Only that Hugo Boss designed them and they did look sharp.

Its like trying to do finger painting while figure skating.

Hence the name.

Good work. It was so authentic I was trying to figure out something bad to say about Jews.

I know a thing or two. What would you like to know?

BTW, excellent work on the diorama. Figures is a field I’ve never ventured into.

Thank you!!

The kit I’m building is Wittmann’s Tiger, specifically during the battle of Villers-Bocage. I have a few German soldiers in varying uniform styles - what camo would have been during that battle? The grey as in the figure I did? Splinter? Or another type?

That’s actually a myth. He did manufacture uniforms for the SS, but the uniforms were designed by Karl Diebitsch who was a member of the Nazi Party and later admitted into the SS itself.

By this stage of the war, there were numerous uniforms being worn, usually based on what type of unit they were a part of. Are you doing figures that are members of Whittman’s Tiger? Accompanying infantry? If so, are they Waffen SS Wehrmacht ?

I was doing accompanying infantry. The kit did come with a Wittmann figure, from the famous photo of him sitting on the turret.

Honestly I don’t know if they were Waffen SS.

My goal is to maybe get one of those ruined house dioramas and put the tigers in with it along with infantry

I might even add a few of his crew - they had black unis, correct?

Gotcha. Whittmann was in the 101st SS Panzer Abt., which was assigned to the 1st SS Panzer Corps during the Normandy Campaign. 1st SS Corps was comprised of the 1st SS Panzer Division and 12th SS Panzer-grenadier Divisions. So, the most likely candidates for infantry around him would be from one one of those two divisions. They both wore are variety of camouflage patterns, with multiple patters being present even in the same units.

Some SS members, primarily those from the 1st SS Pz. Div. Even wore Italian made camo smocks they’d picked up while serving in Italy.

The thing about Waffen SS formations is there was little to no uniformity in their field uniforms.

One caveat to all this. Whittmann’s 101st also operated for a time along with the Wehrmacht Panzer Lehr Div. while in Normandy. Most of their infantry wore the standard field gray uniform of your average German soldier. Though some did wear Splittertarnmuster…

Yes. Unlike SS infantry that wore whatever the hell they felt like apparently, SS panzer crews wore black uniforms virtually identical to their Wehrmacht counterparts.
