Re-read my post. He’s an LSU alum and was in Tiger Band and Wind Ensemble under Wickes. If anyone is going to change things, it will be someone who knows first hand how good the program was from the late 80s through the 2000s.
I admire your optimism, but I don't see how anything will change unless Damon Talley leaves or Tiger Band is moved out from under his control. Maybe Dr. Lau can make either one or both of those things happen. I guess we will see.

I wouldn’t say I’m optimistic. I just have a small amount of hope things will change now where there was none at all before. I just thought it was worth mentioning that the SOM is now being run by someone with ties to the band program. I don’t think that’s ever been the case before.
I think Eric will try to restore the band program to what it was, but there are constraints. He can’t just do anything he may want to. Funding, tenure, politics and slippage in program rep are all factors in this that he may not be able to overcome, even if he tries to. We’ll see how it goes.

I hope you are right. However, the people who gave the "seal of approval" to hire Eric are also the same people who DO NOT want anything to change (since they are also responsible for the current problems).....Jane Cassidy, Jim Byo, etc,..... and most of all......the applied faculty who hate the band department AND evaluate the dean/Eric (which determines if he gets to keep his job). I'm sorry to say that I am not optimistic.

No question that Swor was the GOAT.

No. Strictly regarding Tiger Band and not the symphonic bands, Linda is the GOAT, and always will be.

I have read here that the band used to be under the control of the athletic dept, move them back. Go hire the band director from Jacksonville State.

They got in trouble for using athletic department money to pay for Roy band.

When I went to LSU, the tiger band was great. The band actually won some kind of competition and was named the best band to perform on TV. Back then, Ole Miss had a great band. When they were performing at half time they put on a fantastic show in Tiger Stadium in which Popeye downed a can
of spinach. This performance was done a couple of weeks before the winner was announced. I thought that Ole Miss would definitely win the TV award after I saw their performace. I was surprised when LSU was announced as the winner. Back in those days most bands were extremely loud. The Tiger Band sucks now and I think the best band in the SEC now is Auburn. Their band is loud and their marching formations are top notched. The Auburn band is a lot better than Bama's band. There are two bands in the SEC that are not worth watching and the two are Vandy and Kentucky. I wish that the Tiger band was as good as they used to be. Somebody or something is currently holding Tiger Band at bay. I thought that the worse Tiger Band ever was were during the Rouse years.
