He shares the record for longest field goal in LSU history at 54 yards.

Now a drug rep in Houston.

Don’t remember if it was Lewis, but it seems like there were misses against Tulane and Mississippi State that cost LSU games between ‘83-‘87. Browndyke was a fairly reliable kicker from what I recall.

I remember a joke going around about Lewis that went something like this:
Person 1 “You heard about Ronnie Lewis attempted suicide?”
Person 2 “No”
Person 1 “He tried to hang himself and couldn’t kick the chair from under him. He missed wide right”.

That guy was a train wreck.

It seems like the Mississippi State kicker that beat LSU was from Lake Charles.

'86: Lewis gets replaced by left footed David Browndyke who had made 4 FGs vs OM. But he missed late and we lost 19-21.

I came very, very close to killing this loud mouthed Ole Miss skank sitting behind me in the south end zone during the game.

Lewis could have won it vs Bama but missed a short FG at the end. We tied 14-14

I was at that game....couldn't believe it.

If he hits that kick, Arnsparger beats Alabama every year at LSU. As it is, he is undefeated vs Alabama. He's the only LSU who played them more than twice who did not lose a game to Alabama.

Albert Simmons 1-0 (1895)
John W. Mayhew 1-0 (1909)
Paul Dietzel 2-0 (1957,1958)
Bill Arnsparger 2-0-1 (1984-1986)

Comparing our Beloved Buford to a kicker isn't fair.
That's more like if Foster Moreau flipped off the crowd or an opposing LB.
We'd probably go nuts for it.

Well at least in the 80s no student would have needed grief counseling after the incident unlike Millennial's...

Lol so true. There would be tears and screams of horror today if they were faced with such an incident. Oh the outrage!!

I was in the student section as a freshman when this went down. People lost their minds and were throwing cups and everything not nailed down onto the field. I thought someone might go over the fence to try and get at him. Awesome times when people were actually watching the game and not posting on their cell phones.

I still think the kick was good. That was back when colleges still used the shorter goal posts. Was impossible to tell because he kicked it so high.

The other thing that stands out about it was why we didn’t try to get the ball to the middle of the field. Lewis was something like 5-16 on the year so I can’t imagine making him kick it at that angle.
