nothing wrong with jj.
only problem i've ever had was you had a kid that had a year of experience and was scoring you 30 points a game, then he got hurt.
jj came in and played one good half in 2 1/2 games and they jumped on him, now you have a guy in his first year again, instead of his second. now neither is as developed as they should be going into this year.
that said i think jj is a solid qb. i think when he gets with this running game we have this year, he will excell.
the only concern i have is will he make the right reads when the game is on the line, with less than 5 to play in the game? time will tell.

agreed. I guarantee you the same fricks that want JL will be calling him out the first pick six he throws and will want JJ back in. JL has been in the system a year longer and he doesn't look like he is progressing. I say give JJ a running game. If he still isn't cutting it, then time for a switch, whether that be Garrett or JL.

Running game or not, he needs alot of improving before we can compete for the SEC title. I was hoping to see more this spring but I don'think it will happen this year, he just isn't to the point where he can take the team on his shoulders.

JJ?
Who's beotching about JJ?
I think people are disappointed with his lack of progress and his lack of understanding for what he is expected to do.
Miles' future, and it is his responsibility, is hingeing on a guy who has proven to be clueless.
JJ does not "get it," and neither does Miles.

I agree, but whose responsiblity is that. JL has not progressed either. That is on coaching. Crowton is good awful. That is who we should be bitching about, not JJ or JL.

Normally you would be correct. But our offense is so bad, teams STACK THE LINE to stop the run. DARING us to pass it. Even with single coverage on 2-3 WRs Jordan Jefferson STILL CAN NOT complete passes.
This is true, its our lack of passing game that causes us to have a shitty run game. But I don't blame all of this on Jefferson, its' mostly on the coaches. Crowton has to realize teams are selling out against the run and call plays that allow Jefferson to take 3 steps, and throw quickly. I have not seen Jefferson throw many quick passes, Flynn was excellent at it, why Crowton has not worked with Jefferson on quick passes is beyond me. Or if he has, he is doing a shitty job. This would put less pressure on the Oline to block, less pressure on Jefferson to sit in the pocket, and we have the WRs to do it. Dammit Crowton have you even thought of this??? But I really believe if we can establish a quick passing game, it will make things easier for Jefferson and open up the run more.

What I am saying is you can't have a running game and expect to be successful.
ever seen texas tech play?
ok, you want SEC? you think Arky's running game sets up the pass? because i don't.
you can be a pass first team and set up the run, and if that's what the coaches are trying to do here, they aren't doing very well.
eta: i assume you meant you can't be successful without a running game

I meant to say that is you don't have a running game, you can't be successful. Yes, Texas Tech throws the ball a million times. They got their asses handed to them by Ole Piss last year. They also got murdered by Oklahoma.

a running game isn't gonna give him a quicker release, faster decision making ability, or accuracy on the long ball.

The other teams you mention have much better QB play then us. You are correct, we are trying to be a pass first offense with players suited for a run first offense.

don't get me wrong, i'd love to be a successful run-first team. i just don't think a good running game is a prerequisite for being successful.

You're right. But it will help the TEAM move the ball, get more first downs, score more points and keep our defense off the field. Also, it'll open up the play-action pass.

truth. with JJ in there, this should be a run-first team to be successful

Completley agree. To be an elite program, you have to have a good running game.

I agree to an extent about coaching, and I'm thinking more along the lines of evaluation in the recruiting process. What I don't agree on is a coach being able to coach JJ out of not going through progressions faster or reading defenses quickly to get rid of the damn ball. Same with Lee can you put a mike or a shocker on him when he is about to make that dumb arse read on the quick out route. It's certainly the popular excuse around here to just say coaching but to me they are not working with much.

no, but it would help his decision making if we were to run for a first down before letting him pass. i hope so at least
having said that, if this is to be a pass first team, then Lee's mechanics seem better suited to throw the ball 30 times a game... and i think the running game was a little better against Bama whenever Lee came in last year (except for Ridley not following his lead blocker on the 3rd and short

Not sayin we have a great QB coach or anything, but JL has improved since his last time playing in an actual game. His reads during the spring game were quick and accurate, plus he successfully did the dump pass, something he could not even come close to completing earler in his career.
He's still going to throw INT's every once in awhile, all gunslingers do. But unless JJ seriously improves on his passing, JL gives us the best chance to win as of right now.
(Not bashing JJ at all, I hope our running game picks up, but teams will be stacking 8 in the box and JJ at some point early in the season will have to beat a team passing. I hope he can do it)

idk what team you were watching last year, short passes were all that JJ attempted. Which is why we had 8 in the box all year. Defenses could stop the run and the short pass hence our offense ranking 112.
