The coaching is very important I agree. But to compete at the level LSU fans want and demand you have to have "it". Matt Flynn has more than either of our two QBs today. But how do you evaluate that talent. Everyone in their right mind knows JR has way more "talent" than Flynn. But who would you choose to lead your team knowing what we know now. All I'm saying is it there are some things that coaching can't give either they have it or they don't. I still think and hope one of them find "it" soon or we are in for another long year.

Another pointless thread on an overused subject. There must be a dozen on the same topic since the spring game. Give it a rest.

FAIL.

Normally you would be correct. But our offense is so bad, teams STACK THE LINE to stop the run. DARING us to pass it. Even with single coverage on 2-3 WRs Jordan Jefferson STILL CAN NOT complete passes.

You actually have it completely backwards - IF we had ANY sort of passing game, our running game would take off. That said, I still hope that JJ has hit rock bottom after embarrassing himself last year and in the spring game. There is no where to go but up.

Our running suffered with JL too. Remember CS starting to get a little Heisman buzz, then teams found out JL couldn't read defenses and piled up the line of scrimmage daring him to throw and he did...to them. So let's be fair about this, both have shown some bad tendencies. JJ is suffering from a lack of confidence himself. When he's confident he's on, when he ain't, he ain't.

If all he needs is a running game then why did he suck in the spring game. Didn't the running backs have a pretty good performance?

This is like a chicken/egg argument.

Without a passing game, no one will respect the pass and will put enough people in the box to make the running game nonexistent. Until you can show you can pass ... forget about a running game.
The one thing I notice about JJ is that he can hit a man when there is a breakdown in the secondary and we have a WR running wide open. Or, when a TE just does a quick in-route and is wide open.

He seems unable to read a defense and fit the ball in any possible "tight" spot that all QBs must do if you are going to have a successful running game.

From my perspective, the kid just doesn't have it upstairs to be even a decent SEC QB.

very well done...been saying it all year...but people still want to blame everyone else...especially the o-line...If I was the o-line i would be pissed at that sob for making me look bad....Get rid of the ball!...throw it!!!

I'd love to see the comparison of time great, average, and poor qb's have in the pocket. NOBODY can throw or get comfortable in the pocket because your line can't give you even 3.5 secs i.e. Brees against the cowboys. Same problem. If you can't see that then maybe some of you should be watching fubol instead. By the way, how did JL do last year with the same line against a MUCH weaker opponent WITH most of the def starters out? And don't give me the excuse about hime not having meaningful snaps all year...it's what the back-up does. It's his job to be ready at a moments notice not to mention he's how many years removed from high school. He had a whole year at LSU before he even took a snap, JJ didn't, and you talk about being thrown to the wolves? yea right

Gee Wally, I just dont think thats true. JLee took over in the 3rd game, and Scott ran for over 100 yds in that game, and again in the 4th game, the 7th game, and the 8th game. In the 9th and 10th games Scott was just under 100 yds. KW also had 90 yds in the 9th game (the two combined for 180 yds). Scott's lowest totals were 10 yds and 28 yds in the last two games, when JJ took over as QB.

JLee threw for over 200 yds a game in games 4, 5, 7, and 10. He had the most amount of yds in game 7 (287).

So I dont see where you get that as the year went on, teams stuffed the run because JLee couldnt pass against???

great quarterbacks adjust to this, fwiw, and get rid of the ball quickly. if you're saying JJ is average, then i'm with you.

a QB shouldn't take 5 steps back after receiving a shotgun snap, and also should let the pressure go around him while stepping up and throwing the ball.

I agree they adjust but look at what happened to Tom Brady after being exposed that pressure bothered him when eagles started that reign of terror on him that the giants finished in the super bowl.

Very rarely can any qb take a beating and put up great numbers or not take sacks. Manning can't handle it, Brady can't take getting hit, and Brees couldn't deal with against Dallas, their pros...how do you expect and college player to handle as much pressure that JJ was under all year last year because the oline sucked which is also the main reason we couldn't run the ball. against nobody.

Yeah just dont ever mention Brees and JJ in the same sentence, I know your not actually comparing them rather just their situations, and Brees did not have a running game the year before, a whopping 90 yds/gm

+1. Or improve his pocket presence so he doesn't get sacked constantly.

Anyone who doesn't think a better running game will help our QBs is an idiot.

The outrage here should be towards Crowton. He can't teach two QBs how to read an offense after multiple years of working with them. Heck, he's pretty much ruined two QBs. Neither are accurate, neither can read a defense, and both have poor fundementals.

of course it would help.. but its not gonna make JJ.
gees.
Yall never consider part of the reason we couldnt run it is b/c nobody was scared of out qb.
Its just as relevant.

Hey Weaver, he needs more than a running game to be a good QB. Freaking wake up!
