I have been three times. First two were mediocre, but the latest was excellent. It has much better bars than BR and the stadium atmosphere is great. There are far worse places in the SEC.

Correct. Assuming it's a day game, you can make it back to Bogies before closing time.

Just a warning - Gainesville cops target LSU fans. Don't walk around with open containers.

Went several times and hit and miss;
98: was the revenge game for them although we could have had a chance if not the turnovers. Stayed Jville which is a good 80M drive only half on Interstate but we hit several bars before along the stadium drive which some were cool, some the fans were #$&^&*es. That was when learned about the #@$%^ cops and the boundry along the property line on the stadium sidewalk side; anyone with drinks on the city side was subject to arrest, the school side was more lenient.
02: the MMuack game where genius lil nike leaves him in when we are up big and gets injured! Don't recall any incidents that one and was actually standing in there student section but was a kick beating Zook!
10: Lee to Toliver! Yeah, fun ending but had @##%fans in stands, right behind us idiot wanted to fight everyone and throwing up on tiger fans, was not cool! Stayed in Jville which was fun, right on the river there is a nice hotel with access to water taxi that takes you over to the mall area with band stage, Hooters etc. overlooking river. But agian a pain drive back and forth.
12: had tickets but sold at last minute luckily!
14: ?, will probably get tickets and decide later.
All in all is a pretty area to party in if watch out for the cops and like anywhere generally if looking for trouble can find it but not see many problems other then mentioned in 10!

Went twice. Won once, lost once. Great experience both times, minus leaving the stadium in 2012.
We stayed 20 minutes north of Gainesville for like $59 a night.

If you are going to drink while tailgating. Make sure the alcohol is not visible. Cops are looking for open containers.

Terrible place to tailgate. I am not sure why the cops are such dicks but we were tailgating with Florida fans and they were constantly bitching about the cops and UF admins how they have destroyed the game day atmosphere.
Will never go back unless they change, and it sucks because Florida is usually a good team.

We have stayed in Jacksonville the past few trips to Florida. You can get cheap air far on SW from New Orleans usually. It's about 1 and 20 minutes or so drive to Gainesvile on game day, but a lot more to do during the weekend...beach, restaurants, golf, etc. I have also stayed in Lake City and Ocala and they are ok.
PS...we don't usually tailgate there. The cops are ridiculous as everyone else has stated. So, this is one road trip where we just get to campus in enough time to grab something to eat around campus and walk to the stadium.

I went 2 years ago and asked the same questions here. It was OK at best. I had no problems with cops and I walked around everywhere on campus with drinks. We stayed in Gainesville in a sweet house that we rented off of VRBO. It was walking distance to everything.
The tailgating is weak and spread out. Not real dickie but not as friendly as other places. If you are young 20s then the bar scene is pretty good but the bar "The Swamp" was very disappointing..its get alot of hype but is tiny and uneventful.
You will havea decent time but not like other road games

Gainesville sucks so bad. Terrible fans, terrible tailgating, terrible and overcrowded nightlife, no good restaurants.
But the worst experience of all was sitting for two hours in the car, just waiting to back out of the damn parking spot. The traffic was that bad. This was in '06 when we lost.

ƒu©k Gainsville. I went once, got it knocked off my list and I'm never going back.

The people who have a bad time on lsu road trips are generally total losers or people who take the games way too seriously. in gainesville, just don't walk around with an open container and you'll be fine. I'd stay in gainesville if at all possible. keep checking and they'll open up.

We went in 2012 and stayed at the Days Inn on State Rd 26 right off of I-75. I was very disappointed in the trip. The fans or the cops didnt mess with us. We didnt try to set up a tailgate, just went to a bunch of different bars.

I had an enjoyable time at Florida. Went in 2012. The ride was long but once we were there the campus was pretty, we met up with some other random LSU fans and we drank. Just don't walk around with your alcohol.
Not a single bad problem with the fans besides a group of douches who said the corndog joke. I reponded with the jorts, of course. Then he said "try getting past the 50 yard line in the national championship!" and I shut him up with a "we were playing for a title, where were you guys?" He offered me a beer immediately.

I'm not one to complain about any trip but, I went twice and...
1st time shame on them...
2nd time shame on me...
There will be no third time...

I have been 1/2 dozen times and always had a good time in Gainesville. Only ONCE did I see a police officer tap a guy on the shoulder inside the stadium and escort him out for having an adult beverage.
I used to make away game hotel reservations 50 weeks in advance to all away games to avoid rack rates.
I would save the print outs of the hotel reservations and if I ended up not going, transfer the room to someone else for free or cancel before the deadline to cancel.
