Oh, my goodneess, yes. Kinchen was an insanely explosive athlete. Only about 6'1" but could dunk effortlessly without running. He also had great hands when it came to making difficult catches, but his calling card was that he was the second best RAC LSU receiver that I have ever seen (behind Josh Reed). What kept him from being a true, tip-top tier all-time LSU great is that he was not that big and he did have a little bit of trouble with concentration and dropped some easy balls. My guess is that he was looking to run before he caught it. Excellent kick returner, too, and I believe he returned a handful for TD's in the NFL before injuries curtailed his career after about 5 or 6 years. Also, one heck of a nice guy, too. We were not friends, but I did know a little from school.

"My favorite was his out and up move on Terrell Buckley."
Tiger Stadium damn near blew up when that happened. We lost but what great fun.

oh yeah, forgot about basketball. He was a prominent starter on the Trafton state champ basketball team, too.
Yea, my brother was in Kinchen's class at Trafton. I remember going to a few of his H.S. games although I was young and it's a little foggy.

"My dad told me stories about how Todd Kinchen kicked his dorm room ceiling off of a standing jump and all kinds of crazy shite"
To tell you the truth, Kinchen may have been more "athletic freak" than he was "good football player." His explosiveness was just bizarre. Would love to know what his vertical was.

I grew up in St. Louis for a few years and my dad (an LSU grad) called him to come over and speak with a youth group I was a part of. He was awesome with all the kids. Pretty cool for an NFL player to come over to a strangers house. Of course my mom cooked him jambalaya in return as a thank you
He was and still is a class act. Very religious, passionate with all out effort and a giving heart in addition to his terrific physical talents on the gridiron. He was nicknamed "Crazy Legs" Kinchen during his Rams days in both LA and StL. Because of his running style often catches and returning punts. It was my house he visited with our "Indian Guides tribe" of a bunch of 6-10 year old kids. He was awesome and a man of great humility.
So I am a bit biased, but heck yeah he would not only start, but STAR on today's team!

The question gets asked a lot "could a particular athlete from 20 years ago play today". The truth is today's athletes are bigger, stronger, quicker and have the benefit of improved training and "nutrition".
That being said, Todd Kitchen is one of those rare athletes that probably could not only play today, but be a star.
In addition, he would be a team leader that everyone else would follow...to a championship !

I remember his bullshite offensive pass interference call against vanderbilt as time expired, that play really seemed to mark the beginning of the end for LSU.He really was a bright spot on some really bad teams.A true gamer with a never say die attitude,if i were in a fox hole I would want Todd Kinchen beside me.

If you are saying he beat the best player on the LSU tennis team you are completely full of it
valid point, I meant to say he used to hit with guys on team and was at their level at times, but in HS he owned the best players in the state, could have played college tennis, but not saying he was best in college

Unfortunately, missing from that highlight video is one of the most exciting returns I've ever seen in an LSU football game. Kinchen was an unorthodox returner, and you could tell the coaches gave him carte blanche because he was like lightning in a bottle. Dude would field a punt, run toward his own endzone, then cut upfield, twist his way through defenders, and somehow come emerge for a touchdown. You held your breath every time he got the ball because you were sure to see something amazing.

Todd Kinchen and his older brother Brian who played for LSU were legacies. Their dad Gus played with the Chinese Bandits NC team.

yeah, that's what's amazing about his career at LSU (and the NFL): it was all after a terrible injury.

Only white dude I remember who could run with Kinchen was Sammy Martin. After those two I thought Louisiana would have a never-ending supply of fastest white dudes on the planet
Hasn't been the case.
Sammy ran so fast, his hair came off.

I had to guard that dude in a Box-and-One when he played basketball for Christian Life.
Not fun...

Great footage but You'd hope someone other than Todd would have posted this.
Got a kind of "Hey Remember how good I was" feel to it.
