You are the first to basically say it, but for 4 games I’ve noticed that if there is an incompletion on 1st down, the next play is a run and almost always leaves 3rd and 8. In the last 3 games for sure this has happened without exception. I thought maybe the “self scouting” off week would help them see it. Maybe they did and just want to get something short of 3rd and 10, but at least on occasion you have to do something different. I’m not anti Sloan, but I do think his inexperience is showing.
I think too much is being made of this whole “pass, run, pass” thing. It’s a symptom, not the problem.
While the game was still close (within 2 scores), on 1st down we passed 13 times and ran 4 times. A couple of those 1st downs were 1st & 15 or 1st & 20, though. On 2nd down we passed 8 times and ran 5 times.
If you’re a team that passes ~60+ of the time, you’re basically only going to run once every 3 plays. So when are you going to run it? Well, it’s probably going to be 1st or 2nd down because if you’re in 3rd down after 2 passes, it’s probably 3rd & long anyway. And on 1st down you probably want to do what you’re best at most of the time (passing).. which leads to running on 2nd after incompletions.
The root of the problem isn’t sequencing; it’s that you don’t have balance on offense. It’s basically the equivalent of “run, run, pass” in an offense that is really run-heavy.
In my opinion the solution (outside of just being better at running the ball) is to keep the short passing game going. When you can get 5 yard passing the ball on 1st or 2nd down, everything else becomes easier even if you don’t have consistency rushing. It really frees up the sequencing in a lot of ways. It’s no coincidence that our offense has looked the most effective when we are hitting those quick passes to Daniels, Taylor, and Williams.
The question becomes why we haven’t done that as much over the past few games. Is it because defenses are taking it away? Are we not calling them? Is Nussmeier just not taking the short gains? Probably a combination of all three if we are being honest.

Sloan is the most predictable player caller in CFB.
If fans can predict what plays are coming, what do you think coaching staffs who do this for a living are doing?

I think any offense is better with a true dual threat
that being said, can you honestly say Nuss is performing?
its not just the picks
he’s missing throws a lot of throws.

You idiots need to stop excusing Sloan’s dog shite playcalling
Two things can be true and it’s not my fault your brain can’t fit two thoughts at the same time.

This Sloan's play selection with a first down in the red zone. 1st down, pass to the corner of the end zone. 2nd down, run up the middle. 3rd down, pass to the flats for 0 yards. ( 1st and 3rd down or interchangeable). 4th down, you guessed it , field goal. Been this way all year.

What is he suppose to do about nuss’s idiotic red zone interceptions?
Establish a fricking running game so we don’t have to rely on Nuss throwing 50 times/game.
Call something other than run on 2nd and 10.
Develop players…
