Inside USC’s Scott Wolf is reporting former USC defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze is set to join Ed Orgeron’s staff as a defensive analyst. Orgeron coached Udeze when he was at USC. Sources tell FootballScoop this move has been discussed in Baton Rouge; but has not been finalized at this time. Based on what we are hearing, it seems there is a realistic potential this ultimately happens; but at this time nothing has been finalized.

UPDATE: NOW CONFIRMED. Starts Monday.

Good deal. I know nothing about him. Sounds like he'll be set to take over the DL coaching duties at some point.

Was a beast at USC during their dynasty. First round pick of the Vikings. Only 36. Coached a little with the Seahawks as well.

Seems weird to leave a DL Coach position at his alma mater to be an analyst, but the more the merrier.

His Alma Mater is a mess and Orgeron was his position coach.

I'm sure he was promised a DL coach spot in a year or two IMO.

He was a 1st RD pick of the Vikings in 2004 and retired from the NFL in 2008 after being diagnosed with Leukemia.

From wiki (coaching history):

quote:

During his illness, Udeze decided to return to USC, where he resumed taking classes. In May 2010, Udeze graduated with a degree in sociology.

Former USC assistant coach Steve Sarkisian, who had become head coach of the Washington Huskies, hired Udeze as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He also worked with the defensive line. He also works heavily with charities that help raise money for cancer research.

In 2012, Udeze was hired as an assistant defensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks. In 2013, Udeze completed the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship program with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2014, Udeze was hired as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2015, Udeze returned to his alma mater, University of Southern California, to work as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, where he rejoined former Washington coaches Steve Sarkisian and Ivan Lewis. In 2016, he was made defensive line coach.

Interesting because he's a pretty good recruiter and talent evaluator. The top guys on USCs front 7 are the guys he recruited.

I have no idea how good he is as a DL coach, but if he gives us one more staff member that can help recruit a talent rich west coast it's a good move. A support staff position isn't going to hurt coaching. I do hope we eventually see an upgrade to Dennis Johnson though. I just haven't been all that impressed with him as a DL coach.

It will be interesting though to see if getting Chaisson back opens opportunities for the DL to be more disruptive.
