Would be the biggest fricking idiot to ever run a university if true. LSU has been getting budget cuts for years to their academic programs and athletics keeps making big profits, much of which ends up in the school’s general fund. Having successful programs in the 3 major men’s sports is a cash cow for the school as a whole, so intentionally undermining the athletic dept would be asinine

I agree he is but I think it’s bigger than FKA, with all these stories about basically every program coming out it seems like there’s a takeover in power over who controls college basketball. I think the old guard is being pushed out across the country.

No, I think both JA and FKA understand that tanking the program creates cash flow problems and alumni pressure on their jobs. But their pattern of behavior was well established before coming to LSU: for both of them, when minor problems bring scrutiny and attention from outside the program, the reaction is to throw subordinates and students to the wolves.

Neither one seems to have learned that loyalty is a two way street and must be earned. That is the kind of lesson that doesn't get through to liberal academics. It isn't the way they look at the world. I think that it may finally sinking in that screwing up here is in the process of making them expendable. It is not in the BOS's interest to take a lot of heat for their decisions. They won't get a lot of backup from within the academic or athletic departments. LSU campus politics can be pretty cutthroat. Will Wade is far more popular in Louisiana, and media support can be fickle for even prominent bureaucrats.

You can always hire an AD and university president. Every campus has its blowhards that are not interested in doing research or in teaching. That's where deans and administrators come from. Hiring a winning coach is a hell of a lot harder.
