First Omaha Experience

Well, rolled back into B.R. about 10PM last night. Thought i'd share a little bit of my first Omaha experience. The fact that it was a learning experience goes without saying. The fans around the stadium were great. It was great seeing fans from all of the CWS teams partying together. The locals(no matter what you read on other sites) love to have LSU fans in town. Everywhere we went we we told the same thing. "LSU fans are the best."We love it when LSU makes the CWS". The people at Barret's said it, the beer tent owner said it, even the cop working the cross walk in front of the stadium said it. Here's a few things I learned. 1. Get in line really early if you want to upgrade your GA tickets.Don't bother trying to beat the scalpers,I really believe that they sleep there. If not you'll wait in a long line and walk away empty handed.2.If you don't upgrade, get in line realy early at the GA entrance.3.Avoid the right field bleacher seats, the sun NEVER sets in Omaha and right field stares into the sun the WHOLE game.4. Although the zoo across the street says zoo parking only, they will let you park there and charge you the $10 zoo admission for everyone in the car.So if you drop the crowd off and go alone you can park for $10.
Overall the whole Omaha experience was really enjoyable, I met a lot of really nice locals and even a few transplanted Louisianians.
The 2 negatives I can think of are avoid the "Clarino" hotel at all costs. The pools was broke, the hot tub was broke, the vending machines were broke.even the non smoking rooms smelled like ash trays and the bathroom plumbing leaked which kept the carpet wet all of the time. And "service" was non existent. The other negative was the attitude of a few of the people during the 2 rain delays. The first day, I had a 10 yr old with me, I managed to get her into the covered area but we ended up pinned into the corner behind one of the lemonade stands. The lady working the stand was extremely nice and even talked to a few of the kids there to calm them down. The man working the stand howerver, was not so nice.He kept complaining about how we should be back there and trying to point out ways for us to get out from behind the stand.NO ONE could move and this guy is trying to push a 10 yr old out into the crowd!
During the second rain delay we made it a little further before the rain came down and managed to duck into and open truck trailer. They owner of thre truck who inside of the trailer keeping himself warm had the same attitude and the lemonade guy. "You people shouldn't be in here" "I'm going to charge admission" "this is truck not a storage shed" A little compassion for the people who's money is the whole reason he is there in the first place would have been nice.
Okay, that's my Omaha rant for today...
Would I do it again? Hell Yeah! Go Tigers !

I agree with the original poster in the positives. All the locals were very friendly and talkative. I never heard anything bad about the fans of LSU, or any other school. We met up with some ACC fans that couldn't believe the number of LSU fans there. It was a great sight to see all the purple and gold, whether they were Louisiana folks or bandwagoners, who cares!
The rain delay wasn't bad for us because we were able to get some grandstand seats under the pressbox for face value. Alot of the "locals" left during the delay, so we were welcoming in people to sit and get out of the rain. I am sure my feelings would have been different if I was out in left or right field. It sucked that it took them that long to call the game, but after that drive, we weren't leaving. Also, the PA announcer gave NO info or updates. Thanks to text messaging I was kept informed by people at home watching.
We had a great time, Zesto's was a nice little hole in the wall and the ice cream was good. I honestly don't know what I would do for a week in Omaha though. There are several casinos (including Harrah's and Horseshoe) right across the river in Iowa (7 minute drive from Rosenblatt), but I don't see how Tiger fans spend the entire 12-13 days there. Another bad thing is the bars close at 1! This really sucked with the rain delays pushing back the games, I think we got 1 good hour of drinking in after the games. The bars close at 2 in Iowa, so I guess it's better to go to the casinos after the game. Overall, we had fun, I would recommend everyone at least experience it.
Hopefully I will be returning next year!

I couldnt count how many times ESPN mentioned LSU as the best fanbase at the CWS and how LSU fans come to the venue even when LSU isnt playing in it

These seem to be very mediocre reviews of the CWS experience.
The ice cream was good? wtf..
Bars close at 1 ?
Nice lady at a lemonade stand?
I think the best seat in the house is the couch/recliner in BR. It's cheap, effective, dry, without sun in my eyes...and the fajitas and steak from whole foods tasted great. I could even have a few beers during the game, and the john was only a few feet away.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!

We had parking passes for the lot next to the stadium and had seats behind home plate. My husband is an excellent cook. Nothing mediocre about our trip.
A local guy gave us some passes to the glassed in VIP area for a non-LSU game. It was enjoyable but I wouldn't want to be in there for an LSU game. Still, it was an experience that you can't have from home in your easy chair!

FAIL!
If price, sun, a steak, beers, and toilet only steps away is what you consider before experiencing Tiger athletics in person...you are NOT a true Tiger fan! There is nothing better...and I mean nothing better...than traveling with the Tigers and watching them in person. Whether it is in cold rain or a comfortable night, true Tiger fans appreciate being there. You should head over to the Tulane board Greenie Weenie!

Third trip to Omaha - first time we didn't win the championship. Brought my five year old son. We had a great time. Went to the zoo, the indoor water park, the children's museum, and several games including all the LSU games. It was the first time I drove. Doing all that driving takes a lot out of you. Regardless, it is a great experience. Every Tiger fan should go at least once.

Don't remember seeing him there. What I do remember is I was 15th in line and 12 of the people in front of me were scalpers. One even had kids with him because of the 6 ticket limit. They spent more time at the windows haggling over seat choices than the people who were actually going to use the tickets they were buying.

I saw this guy with a bunch of tickets held up.
I live in Iowa (18 yrs now) and this was my first trip to CWS (I know I should've gone many times

where in Iowa do you live?
I moved away from Des Moines about a year ago. The best thing about living there was being 2 hours from the CWS.

about 40 miles west of Des Moines
ETA: I definitely intend to go back! It was great!
Corrected to west because I can't read a map!

You forgot one, J.O.B.
LSU football= greatest possible spectator sport
LSU baseball = super regionals ...amazing
= Rice game... amazing
the rest....not that memorable.
I'll stay glued to the television for those 3-4 hours that LSU play. The rest of the week.. I'd rather have a life.

That's the beauty of being there live ! You never know when you are going to witness something amazing. No way in hell a television screeen compares to being there. Hearing the fans roar, feeling the stands shake, seeing the pride on the faces of the players as the board the team bus.

we are from louisiana -- the heat was NOT that bad ... i sat in the right field bleachers twice & enjoyed it both times...and i agree about upgrading your GA tickets...i remember someone started a thread before the series about giving us some 'secret' advice about upgrading tickets...will apparently the entire country read that thread b/c we showed up an hour before the box office opened and the line was already 500 deep ... we would have waited in line to reserve our tickets till at least 1230 or 1 had i not paid some kid 20 bucks at the front of the line to upgrade my tickets for me

You seem to throw that in there now. It wasn't a concern of your original post! Now all of a sudden you didn't make it because of your job? I was going to have to come back to work Monday regardless of the outcome, so I went up there knowing if we played for the NC I would have to come home. And how do you know the outcome of a game before it happens? That's why you go, you never know when you may witness an "amazing" game.

I've never been to Omaha, but have always wanted to. I definately plan to go before the they move the CWS out of Rosenblatt
