Getting close!

Curious, should we be expecting the full tailgate experience since its opening weekend, or will the lack of a power 5 opponent minimize it?

I apologize if I missed it in your post, but where are you coming from? Perhaps people took the same trip and can provide even more valuable info knowing this.

Hope you in enjoy your trip. The only chips that are welcome are the ones covered in cheese, salsa, quac, etc. No chips on your shoulder. Check your ego at the door. Roll with the punches and you'll be fed very well my friend

1 from Virginia
1 from Michigan
1 from Chicago
2 from Atlanta
2 from DC

Staying at a Airbnb most of us went to MSU, although 2 went to GSU, which was why this was the LSU opponent that was chosen. (Coming to LSU was a no brainer)

If the weather is good then this being opening weekend will make a difference. Tiger fans have been waiting many months to get out there and do their thing. It'll be a far cry from a big SEC Showdown but it'll be pretty good.

lol WVU was interesting, the plus was that they sold beer in the stadium so no halftime hangover (very excited that got passed for LSU this year) the bad part was it was ~20 degrees and our generator on our RV froze!

We played them a few years back and the younger fan base had no banter skills, just FU...

...Geaux Tigers! - FU
...Tiger Bait! - FU
...Rip Rip Rip Rap Rap Rap, West Virginia Women got the __ __ __ - Huh?

Was a really strange environment. The older folks were cordial and apologetic but at the time WVU was softly evaluating joining the SEC. If I remember correctly, they would have had to build a couple female programs/stadiums (i.e., Softball...) to get in and chose not to.

Did like that Marriott right outside the stadium (practically on campus), offerings of moonshine and beer inside stadium was nice but I'm sure contributed to fan hostility when we kicked the crap out of them.

We were treated pretty well, but that is somewhat the nature of our group, we all went there to support WVU (against TCU) as we will LSU this time around (the two GSU grads not withstanding).

If it was any other non-conference game, tailgating might suffer. Being the first game of the season, we're all ready to air out our tailgating gear and start cooking. The in stadium experience will suffer outside of the first few minutes, but tailgating will be fine.

Welcome....Chimes the night before

On Saturday walk the whole campus...the team and band come down the hill about 4:45 I believe. Wear your shirts from whoever your team is and as long as it's not one of our rivals, you will eat and drink better than you ever have in your life!

We are from all over the place, but after last year at WVU in the 20's I welcome all heat!
Betcha won't be saying that when your ball sweat is soaking through your underwear!

My advice would be wait for cooler weather and an SEC game.

Otherwise have fun!!

You clearly havent left our state much...for a city of 223,000 people we have a great restaurant scene. Maybe that's true if youre comparing Baton Rouge to New Orleans (who has the best food in the country, debatabley the world) then sure.

Food in Baton Rouge:
- Tony's Seafood (for lunch Friday, dont go at dark)
- Phil's Oyster House
- K Street
- Mestizo's
- Roberto's
- Juban's
- Stoube's
- Bergeron's (best lunch spot in BR)
- Rocco's Poboys
- Gino's Italian
- DeGulio Brothers Italian
- Mason's Grill

I could go on for a while of great places to eat in our city. Our ratio of unique restaurants to chain restaurants like Chili's is excellent relative to 90% of America.

Bars to go to:
- Avoid downtown (some exceptions like Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's)
- Uncle Earl's (doesnt really get cranking until 11)
- Chimes (super packed on gameday weekends and especially now with the rooftop bar open)
- Ivars, the Merchant, Duvics (good local neighborhood bars next to each other)
- RedStick Social (if youre into the bars with bowling/bands/outdoor games, nicest version ive been to)
- Fred's in Tigerland (if you want to go where the college kids go)
