It’s going to be awfully refreshing to see the 2 hole hitter get to bat with a runner in scoring position leading off the first AB time and time again this season.

That happened quite a few times last season with Crews leading off.

The issue was Crews constantly raking doubles with nobody on.

Damn Safford beat out a bunch of candidates. Interesting to see how improved he is.

I saw this discussed yesterday or the day before, but I’m still surprised.

Obviously, he was impressive enough in the scrimmages, but I wonder how much of this is JJ realizing Berry is just too big a defensive liability at 3rd and adjusting accordingly. Still, interesting that Jobert’s not in the lineup. Could have easily had him in right, Doughty at 2nd, and Berry DHing. I’d like to hear JJ’s thought process as he’s essentially trading Jobert’s bat for Safford’s. Is that more to do with Jobert struggling, Stafford playing well, or keeping a promise to play Berry in the field somewhere. At least to begin the season.
