Jim needs to keep football but give baseball to Hanagriff and find someone (possibly H) to do basketball. Jim is horrible at those two. He can't even be bothered to give you the score/current state of the game any quicker than every 15 minutes. That should be an every other minute or so sentence out of his mouth as play by play.

Yeah I love his TD calls also, especially Jack Hunt catching the "Blue Grass Miracle."

who is the best option we have to replace Hawthorne?

I think Miles can do it from the sideline:

quote:

The line of snapping for the first scrimmage play is roundabout our territory and the line to achieve so as to earn a new set of downs, inherently our goal on any offensive round of snaps, is roughly 30 feet downfield.

The Quality Tigers break the huddle and are lined up in a formation indicative of want.

The Quarterback receives the ball having been snapped by the man on the line responsible for that task in a like fashion.

As is our mentality, the beginning of the play illustrates some good strong run look action movement.

The Quarterback gives the opponent a quality fake of the handoff ball action and drops to do that thing that teams on occasion do on offense other than running.

Three receivers downfeild are displaying their velocity skill sets as each has established a display of uncoveredness.

The Quarterback opts for the conservative, almost lateral play to the running back. Gain of 2. For a moment there, that play had the makings of a play that would display a mark of success.

I totally disagree. Hawthorne may get some calls wrong in baseball, but he is MUCH MUCH better than any other LSU PBP guy at filling the dead time between pitches and he has MUCH more emotion in his voice than Hanagriff or the other guy (names slips my mind currently).

In fact, I have no idea why all the hate for Hawthorne over the last 5yrs or so. Is the a TD thing? A younger generation thing? I'm only in my early 30's....is this a view point of the 20 somethings? Listen to the Ole Miss PBP guy, he isn't any better.

This. I'm quickly realizing our fan base is our own worst enemy.

13-1? Fire the coach.
Win the CWS in 2009? Fire the coach two years later because he is rebuilding.
Radio guy? Made some mistakes in one of hundreds of games he calls a year: Fire him too.

WTF? Baseball is probably the sport he is the most awful at.

Yeah, I'm ready for all those, "deep fly ball fielded by the second baseman/shortstop" calls.

I imagine he was as frustrated as most fans were. Should he have called the game in a joyous tone?

Hawthorne is a hell of a lot better than any other SEC voice.

Hawthorne could be the most pessimistic play by play announcer I have ever heard.

This, been a fan for 45 years, its one thing to be a corny homer (munson) its another to hate the team and not know the sport..JH must go...but never will...ego....

No. However, you should be able to do a better job if you are going to say that you could do a better job. Not referring specifically to your post but to this argument in general.

So how many other teams announcers have you heard?

I didn't listen to hawthorne's call of the game, but all i have to say is if i were doing the play by play of the BCS game that would be the last game I would ever work. I'd be fired for spewing several explatives and questioning the sanity and 'want' of the coaching staff.

Would have at least been more enteraining than the game itself.

Hawthorne is way better than most. Just listen to other teams announcers and they are really terrible. I heard a few games this past season on Sirius. Made me appreciate Jim even more.

One thing I really like about Hawthorne is you know when it's a good play for LSU, just from his voice.

I was listening to the Saints/49ers game on the radio, and Jim Henderson made that last td by Jimmy Graham sound like just a routine 1st down catch in the 1st quarter. And at the time, it was crucial that we score. I hate that about announcers. If I'm listening to the radio, I want the announcer to be one of us and not one of them.

I think most of the ones that claim he is so bad have NEVER listened to other teams announcers and/or just repeating what others say. Musberger is said to be one of the best in the business and he makes mistakes all the time.

We drove to Disney for the LSU/Florida baseball series last year, and I caught the Friday night game on the Florida broadcast. I don't know if their radio guy that does baseball is the same that does football, but he was horrible. Sounded like their version of Richard Condon doing a broadcast.
