This would kill most schools sports. Having to revenue share every single athlete at school equally.
Nil and all this has ruined college sports. Best entertainment/ release is dead

and athletes would be able to transfer “freely” and do so without penalty or restrictions, according to the bill.
This is what actually needs to be reigned in. Make them sit out a year after their first "free" transfer or at least require a "'student' athlete" to honor his/her commitment to the school for one year.

Under the bill, conferences would need to include teams within the same time zone, with travel and academic concerns cited as reasons.
This is stupid. Half of the SEC are in the Central Time Zone and the other half are in the Eastern Time Zone.

Exactly. Not having to sit a yr was the only thing somewhat holding it together. No penalty transfer was the nail in the coffin

100% agree. This would slow that shite down and those clowns that are negotiating.

Make them sign contracts

The bill also takes aim at coaches’ salaries as those figures rise. A coach’s maximum annual salary would have a cap of, “10 times the full cost of attendance at such institution,” according to the text.
Lol. Politicians are going to laugh this bill off before it even hits their desk.

As bad as things are, we don't need politics in college sports.....we need common sense rules!
Posted on 4/8/25 at 7:21 pm to dmart4215
that might be the single worst idea i’ve ever heard in my life.

On the same day the House v. NCAA final approval hearing took place, a transformative federal bill was introduced in the House of Representatives. It would replace the NCAA while also shaking up the college athletics landscape, including with the transfer portal and conference realignment.
H.R. 2663, called the “Restore College Sports Act” and filed by Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-WA), would create the American College Sports Association.
No chance this happens. They’re trying to approve the existing settlement by next week

“ Restore College Sports Act”

the bill calls for NIL funds and revenue directly shared with the schools to be distributed “equally among all student athletes of such institutions within the ACSA.”
So the starting QB and the walkon swimmer get equal revenue share when they and their sports generate vastly different amounts of revenue?
quote:
Broadcast revenue would also need to be distributed equally,
So athletes of sports thats are not even broadcast on tv are entitled to the revenue of those that are?
quote:
and athletes would be able to transfer “freely” and do so without penalty or restrictions, according to the bill.
So they should have all of the benefits of highly compensated employees with none of the restrictions?
quote:
Under the bill, conferences would need to include teams within the same time zone,
Syracuse and Miami are in the same time zone and are 1400+ miles apart.
Auburn and Georgia are in different time zones and 170 miles apart.
Are arizona schools switching conferences during the year?
quote:
A coach’s maximum annual salary would have a cap of, “10 times the full cost of attendance at such institution,” according to the text.
Athletes are entitled to uncapped NIL but coaches aren’t?
quote:
Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-WA)
Is a fricking idiot and further proof that an iq test should be required for members of Congress. He should be banned from society for being so stupid.

so due to travel concerns:
Auburn (just as an example) can not be in the same conference as Georgia. About a 3 hour drive.
but they CAN be in the same conference as Minnesota. a damn near 18 hour drive.
quote:
A coach’s maximum annual salary would have a cap of, “10 times the full cost of attendance at such institution,” according to the text.
so LSU can’t pay a coach more than $440k?
quote:
Per the bill, the ACSA would have a commissioner appointed by the President with advice and consent of the Senate. The commissioner would serve four-year terms.
yeah, because the government is so amazingly great at running shite.
quote:
Broadcast revenue would also need to be distributed equally,
so straight up communism?
are we sure this isn’t an article from the Bee?

ha! i didn’t even think about that part

Why should Nuss be paid the same as a scholarship swimmer? No offense to the swimmer, but football is the only sport that matters. The NCAA holds university feet to the fire on the student side. Progress toward degree is required to remain eligible. 89% of LSU athletes graduate within 6 years. I trust NCAA more than politicians to sustain this focus (i.e. the current system is not broken on this issue). This legislation is reinventing the wheel with a different and non-market based distribution model and possibly less enforcement of academic rules.
