It appears F King Alexander wants to lower the admission standards currently in place at LSU. He wants to replace them with a "Holistic Process".

quote:

Greater weight will be put on personal recommendations, student-written essays and outside activities, thereby opening LSU’s doors to students who test poorly but otherwise have good credentials.

Much of today's current high admission standards were put in place under Mark Emmert's tenure. This is raising the ire of members of the Board of Regents and alumni, and lots of newspaper editorials across the state have been critical of F King Alexander and his proposal. Maybe the Board of Regents and the LSU Board will decide to send him packing, and a new President will do the same with AD Joe Alleva.

If it gets rid of FKing then great but I don’t necessarily have a problem with updating admissions standards put in place almost 20 years ago.

Eh I’m not sure. Not a fan of this but LSU just accepted their largest & most “academically successful” freshmen class ever

LINK

quote:

With enrollment numbers being finalized today, LSU has brought in its largest, most diverse freshman class in history. LSU has welcomed 5,803 new freshmen to campus this year, which breaks the previous record of 5,725 new freshmen enrolled in 2012. “Over the last year, LSU modernized its entire approach to recruiting students, using a data-driven model that is the envy of our peers,” said LSU President F. King Alexander. “This has led to our record-breaking class being the most academically successful and diverse group of students we’ve ever brought in.

We are excited to watch them grow and succeed at LSU and beyond.” LSU has increased its freshman class size without sacrificing quality or academic rigor. This class has a mean GPA of 3.5, holding steady from last year’s class profile. This class has a mean ACT score of nearly 26, also holding steady from last year, with a 30 percent increase in students achieving a 31 or higher.

Students who don’t test well have a habit of not testing well.

Making it hard for them to succeed in environments where you have to pass tests to stay enrolled.

When did LSU ever require an essay?

I sent transcripts and my ACT scores and found out I got in like a month later during early admission.

I never wrote an essay

His current boss (JBE) and BOS sprinkled with JBE appointments aren’t likely to do anything. It’s yet another reason why the Governor’s race is so crucial. It would be nice to scuttle Governor Tax and Spend before every single plant expansion goes to Texas.

Well I am not a Dumbocrat. Just saying you tick off the regents, and alumni enough then the governor can instruct the board on what he favors being done. Everyone knows Louisiana is a political machine.

My problem with this is "updating" the admission standards for the sole reason of making LSU more "diverse."

It sounds like a way to pander to those who feel that LSU's student body doesn't have enough minority representation.

I think you just rushed past a HUGE qualifier
quote:

most academically successful AND diverse group

because when you do this
quote:

30 percent increase in students achieving a 31 or higher.

but remain at this
quote:

class has a mean ACT score of nearly 26, also holding steady from last year

that means you let about 30% of those DIVERSE students in that, tested under a 26 on the ACT. For that mean score to remain steady

jus sayin'

F. King and Alleva are products of Bobby Jindal.
Don' t try to blame this on anyone else.

You all have the Terrible Triumvirate down there. It doesn't get any worse than:

John Bel Edwards
F. King Alexander
Joe Alleva

Add Ed Orgeron to that list and you have the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. But I'll wait until at least the end of the regular season or the 4th loss, whichever comes first, before bestowing that moniker.
