Explain champions tie into Sugar Bowl

Not sure if this is what you're asking, but the SEC champion plays in the Sugar Bowl unless they are selected to play in the BCS championship game.

if so, it all has to do with the new 4 team playoff that starts in a couple seasons. Basically, the SEC was shopping a place to send their champion along with the Big 12. They called it the "Champions Bowl" just as a code while they were shopping it. It basically came down to the cotton bowl and the sugar bowl. The sugar bowl one. It won't be called the champions bowl.

"Champion's Bowl" was a placeholder name...it's still the Sugar Bowl.
Once the BCS does away, the SEC Champion will play the Big 12 Champion in the Sugar Bowl every year unless either one is in the National Championship game.

Wait...this means the Sugar Bowl is part of the 4 team playoff now and the SEC Champ/Big XII Champ winner then goes to the NC game?
So every year the game would match those two champs? What happens if one champ isn't in the Top 4? I assume they go somewhere else then?

The SEC will likely very rarely play in this game as they will almost always begun the 4-team playoff. They'll also host the semi-finals every 4 years, so I don't know if they'll have both games that year. And I think the NCG will be a while different beast itself, with venues bidding for it like the Super Bowl rather than rotating. Im assuming there will be a stipulation that you can't host the semi and the final in the same year, though.

Ok, the "champions bowl" (soon to be called the Sugar Bowl) will be a completely new bowl game which matches up the SEC champion vs. the Big XII champion, unless one of those teams is in the new 4 team playoff.
The game "formerly known as the Sugar Bowl" will be rotated in as part of the playoff sites.
Essentially the Sugar Bowl committee will host the "champions bowl" and then a separate game when the "Sugar Bowl" is selected to host a playoff game.

Yeah.....this is MUCH less confusing and SO much better then the BCS.

I think it is. You get better teams playing better competition during bowl season and you will more likely than not have teams playing tougher schedules, since teams playing cupcakes more often than not may get left out.

so how is it determined where the top four teams play and where the championship game will be?
Short of some unimaginable turn of events how would the SEC champion not be in the top four?
What is the point of matching up conferences again within this new system when the systemis designed to get the top four teams into a play off?

The playoff games will rotate between the 4 current BCS bowls (Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, Orange) and two additional ones -- Cotton and Chick-Fil-A. The championship game will be up for bid, so it could be anywhere. I do think that they are confining the first championship game to one of the 6 bowls used for playoffs though.

SEC champion would play Big 12 champion in new orleans, except if one of those champions were in the semi finals. Basically you would still get a good bowl if you were a 2-3 loss big 12 or sec champion.
The semi finals will also be rotated every 4 years if im not mistaken.
