Most popular person on campus at LSU is the backup QB.

I am told he will be starter, if Etling can't get the job done

Really hoping this won't happen. Wait your turn young one. Hoping Etling has a great year. I don't want to have a bad season just to see Brennan start.

As they say in soccer, if you're good enough, you're old enough. Generally doesn't apply to true freshmen QBs, but this is a brand new offense, so no one outside of Etling has a meaningful advantage in "learning the offense", and Etling's advantage is just from having multiple years of live action at the college level. None of the other QBs have that, so given how highly Orgeron has spoken of Brennan thus far, it wouldn't surprise me if Brennan is #2, go ahead and get him some experience if he's in line to start next year.

Scott's transfer is telling because he is seeing the other QBs perform and the coaches' opinions, although not nearly as telling as if McMillan were to transfer.

I wonder if it would even take a bad season for this to happen. Canada is brand new and he doesn't necessarily have a history with Etling other than recruiting him at one point. It might be easier for him to make the call on the best player, period.

We'll see how it shakes out.

You have a point but although it is easy for the fresh set of eyes to pick out the most talented player, I think they can't ignore the experience. No matter how good a freshman is he will make some freshman mistakes. But if they feel his talent is enough to nullify some of those mistakes he will make and it not hurt us. Then I could see it happening.

Plus, I think it was stated at some point here that O wants a 50-50 split of plays called, maybe slightly more to the running game. With Guice and, from what we're hearing, CEH being in the backfield, we would definitely be leaning on them a lot until Brennan gets more comfortable.

I'd still bet money on Etling being our starter going in, but I don't feel Brennan means a lost season.......if he's as good as it's being said.

Starting a true freshman in the SEC west with a brand new offense just doesn't sound good to me.

Wouldn't it be a brand new offense for any true freshman?

Yes, but you have the rest of the team learning as well. In terms of scheme, you wouldn't have veterans to lean on necessarily because it's new to them too.

Etling is not a great QB but he's not bad either. He's above average

You have forgotten what above average QA play looks like. Bless it.

Etling isn't a world beater but I firmly believe he will show good improvement under an actual QB guru.
