Death, taxes and the rant trying to bench Josh Pearson.
When a left handed pitcher starts, I would prefer Frey in the lineup. Regardless of the handiness of the pitcher, I want Brown in the lineup.
Pearson is decent, and I know he has some solid moments in the post season, but Brown is better. Don't get me wrong, I like Pearson and he certainly has a role on this team. Brown is just a better player.

Even though Stanfield has done nothing wrong, I think Curiel in CF, Brown in RF, Pearson in LF, and Frey at DH is the best combination right now. Of course current form will change throughout the season and there will be game by game decisions of righty/lefty and offense/defense.
I'm with you on that lineup. You give up some defense with Stanfield on the bench to get some more offense with Frey. Lots of combos you can use with the 12-13 guys battling for 9 spots

Brown is probably our best hitter at this time. I'd hate to bench him. He hits for average and power and he can run. He's an offensive monster

It's not. Stanfield is batting over .300 and getting on base at almost a 50% clip. He is everything you want in a lead off hitter, except that he's behind a lead off hitter that's putting up all-american numbers in Curiel. So he's giving you that production from the 9 hole. On top of that he is a phenomenal defensive CFer.
Behind Curiel, Stanfield is the second most entrenched player out of the 5.

There is a contingent that is just pulling for the kids who have wore the LSU uniform for the longest. You see it with Stanfield vs the rest of the OF, and you see it with Brass vs Reaves.

I like this brand of baseball. It benefits the team in a lot of ways... builds chemistry, keeps guys locked in and involved, makes opposing pitching staffs have to prepare more. Been a fun group to watch so far.

He is crushing the baseball. Punishing it.

Agreed. You need elite defense in CF, and you should be willing to put up with a weak bat in that spot to get it. Stanfield has elite defense and he's producing at the plate. Having him out there is the best-case scenario until his numbers tank so much that you have to revisit the situation.

The problem is, we havent needed more offense, we're scoring a ton of runs basically every game. I would take the best defensive outfielder hitting .328 at the bottom of the lineup for now and keep either Frey or Pearson (whoever isnt DHing) in your back pocket and maybe put them in a PH situation late in a game where we need the offense/extra power and Stanfield comes out where then you could flip Curiel to CF and have some combo of Brown/Pearson/Frey (probably Brown and Pearson as better defenders) in the corner OF spots.
In the end, very good problem to have. Stanfield obviously doesnt bring the power of the other guys, but hitting .328 at the extreme bottom of the lineup and the fact he can turn singles into doubles; doubles into triples and grab an extra base on base hits by others better than most putting pressure on defense is something you dont want to walk away from when the offense overall is already great.

Hmm. Stanfield has the second-best OBP in SEC games (.583) behind Dickson(.643), the most runs scored(5), and the best range in the outfield.
He has started every single game this season, it should be pretty clear by now that he has locked down the centerfield position, rightly in my opinion.
I think RF and DH are the only positions up for debate in SEC play. Pearson, Brown, and Frey will probably platoon those two. If I had to guess, Frey will DH vs Lefties with Pearson/Bown in RF and Brown/Pearson vs Righties one RF and DH depending on what Jay feels like that game.

I need to see it against quality SEC pitching first, but it has looked like he’s improved a lot at the plate
No doubt.
That ~10 pitch AB he had this past weekend was impressive. He is seeing the ball well & squaring it up. I LOL last night when I saw him pose with Dickinson & Jones after his 1st HR. Those are some BIG boys in the middle of our lineup. I hope he makes it very hard for CJJ to leave him off the starting lineup card.

Man, it would be great if Frey could be a replacement for Jones next year.

they keep saying... you dont have a spot for him rn with brown and pearson.... figure it out. He is bears replacement next season. Development matters and this dude is hitting nukes rn.

You misspelled Ryan Costello. 1 or 2 spots in the OF will be up for grabs next year plus EF would likely get first shot as DH.

He's good, and I like Frey a lot. But that is some big shoes to fill. I'd be thrilled if he was playing good enough to take 1B next year. As much as Jay loves lefties, I would be surprised if that wasn't Costello's job to lose.

That's much easier said than done. Frey has earned opportunities to be in the lineup, but no matter who you replace him with there will be some solid production sitting on the bench. It's a good problem to have.

Ryan Costello
I heard someone on a broadcast at the beginning of the year say he had the fastest bat speed or exit velocity in fall camp.

This incorrect. He didn’t start game 2 against Omaha….

Correct, I actually noticed that he had started all but one and meant to go back and modify it but forgot. Pitfalls of getting old I guess
