Unless the NBA didn't approve the expected rule change (and I've seen nothing saying they didn't), the OP appears to be incorrect.

From the NCAA's website:

quote:

College basketball players who request an Undergraduate Advisory Committee evaluation, participate in the NBA combine and aren’t drafted can return to school as long as they notify their athletics director of their intent by 5 p.m. the Monday after the draft.

Apparently the NCAA sent a recent memo to coaches discussing the new rules:

quote:

With the current college basketball season nearing its end, the NCAA released a memo to its coaches earlier this month to help outline the new rule changes in regards to players signing with an agent.

Under the new guidelines, players must submit their names for an evaluation from the NBA’s Undergraduate Advisory Committee (UAC) before they are allowed to be represented by an agent. In order for the player to remain eligible for a return to college, those agents must be NBPA certified.

quote:

In addition, the UAC will now provide written feedback to players and their coaches, starting on April 1st. The feedback is gathered by sending NBA executives a series of emails with a list of names and requesting their team’s assessment of players’ draft stock. The player is then informed of the NBA executives’ responses, ranging from likely lottery pick to undrafted.

If a player receives a conditional combine invitation or a G League Elite Camp invitation, they may conduct workouts with their college coaches to prepare for these events. However, players are restricted to a maximum of four hours per day and 20 hours per week of workouts leading up to the combine.

To return to school, players must withdraw from the NBA draft by May 29. Those who do withdraw must terminate their representation agreements before enrolling in the next academic term.

Naz and Tremont are LSU and they embrace it. They lifted the program and I thank them.

Ben? I'll never care what he does and will never associate him with LSU.

If they stay past the deadline and go thru the draft they are gone.. in reality I think both of them said they were signing with an agent. Probably means taking agent cash as well. Which mans definitely gone..

Big difference between being “real”, and being an arse. Huge difference between being right and wrong. Congrats on being both wrong and an arse.

The new rules aren’t effective until the one and done rule is gone. So 2021 at the earliest

No offense, but you are the only person I've seen saying this. The article I linked is from April 2019 discussing that the new rule is in effect for this year's draft.

Here's another article from two days ago saying the same thing:

quote:

In the wake of the FBI college basketball scandal, the NCAA adopted a series of policy and rules changes in 2018 that alter the process by which a college player is allowed to test the NBA draft waters.

Under the new rules adopted by the NCAA's board of governors and Division I board of directors, college players are allowed to be represented by agents who are certified by the NBPA and NCAA (the agents must become NCAA-certified no later than Aug. 1, 2020) after any season, so long as they request an "evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee." They must end the relationship if they return to school.

Players can also now return to school after going undrafted without losing eligibility, but only if they participated in the NBA combine.

Because of these changes, it will remain a bit unclear who will return to school for 2019–20 until late May.

I think you may be confusing the proposed one and done rule change that hasn't taken effect with this new rule re: current college players returning to school.

That's when it will apply to High School players, not college players. The college rule went into effect immediately.

But you can withdraw from the draft and come back to school as long as you don't hire an agent

Actually you can enter into a contract with an NCAA-certified agent and still come back. You are just limited on what that agent can provide you financially.

I mean, technically, not really. They have more years to give. But aren't.
