ESPN's coverage of Hatch

ESPN keeps harping on Hatch being a Harvard transfer as if this is a death blow to LSU's offense. If Crowton doesn't leave BYU and Hatch was a BYU transfer instead, would they be making such a big deal about his previous experience?

It goes with the name of the school.
Seriously, if Hatch transferred from Harvard to any other SEC school we'd be making of fun them. He just has to shut the critics up

ESPN hates BYU and Harvard even more than it hates LSU.

BYU usually has very good QB's. Did he leave BYU for Harvard because he couldn't break into the lineup there, or was it for academic reasons/religious mission (I think he's a Mormon)?

I think it had something to do with gc leaving byu

Timeline I was given:
1.Recruited by Crowton at BYU.
2.Crowton leaves BYU
3.Hatch goes to Harvard instead
4.Hatch goes on his mission
5.Hatch leaves mission a year early due to knee injury
6.Hatch walks on at LSU, following Crowton.

he never went to BYU, was planning to but Crowton left so he went to Harvard instead. Left after a year for his mission.

Does it matter?
Is anyone else nervous that Lee can't beat out a walkon that was a backup at an ivy league school, that apparently can't throw a 10 yard out without a noticable arch?
What the hell happened to Lee?

He was a true freshman when he was at harvard, they have no summer program or anything like sec schools. He showed up a month before the season and expected to learn a system when someone else was already familiar with it. Hatch went to Harvard for academic reasons not football.

Goodness. Hatch was aback up because he was a Freshman
Hatch sort of gets a bad rap because people got invested in Lee's recruitment.
BIth are neck and neck and we consider that a blessing. PErhaps they are both quality

Whatever. None of that makes me feel any better that Lee can't beat out Hatch.
Hatch realistically shouldn't even be in the discussion about starting QB at LSU.

I will seriously laugh at all of you who think that way. He doesn't have to be a heisman winner. Look at the last 2 qb's who lead LSU to national championships. They were far from the stud QB we had in Jamarcus Russell. It takes more than just physical skills. Sometimes all you need is normal qb skills with exceptional decision making ability. All any of LSU's qb's have to do is get the ball in the hands of the many playmakers LSU has on offense. We have a stud o-line, stud recievers and backs. The only problem I forsee is when one of the QB's have to make something happen on 3rd and 5 or more. Other than that. I really don't think we will be as bad at QB as many would think.

Agree with Kracka. In the BCS era, Game managers have won more national championships than their superstar counterparts. Besides Vince Young, name a national championship QB who is a regular starter in the NFL.

Why is that? JUst curious. I mean how many followed hiim as he was growing up in California and Nevada?
It seems that he has done stuff to impress the Coaches and put himself into the position. THat shows something
PErhaps LSU fans demand a a more sexy name I don't know

I assume the QB Hatch didn't "beat out" was Ryan Fitzpatrick ... 7th Round Draft pick in 2005? Currenly with the Cinncinnati Bengals? Gee, I can't understand how an incoming freshman couldn't beat out a player bound for the NFL.

Deja Vu:
1. Mauk recruited by Saban at MSU
2. Mauk decides to play minor league ball
3. Saban leaves MSU for LSU
4. Mauk follows Saban to LSU 3 years later
5. Mauk, not the greatest talent, notches the 2003 NC throwing 2 INT's and 0 TD's in the champ. game

You shouldn't assume. Fitzpatrick was already gone when HAtch arrived.
