The top 8 teams should play each other.
To let conference champs only play would mean a weaker field in order to preserve political correctness.

I say let the top 8 play regardless of what conference they are in.

Again - if you go undefeated and lose in your conference championship game - we can at least look at your resume. But a 1-loss, non-division leader, non-SEC champ has no business being in the big game.

Sums it up perfectly.

I agree with this. Because of the 2012 BCS debacle, the 4 team "playoff" was put into place.

I don't hang with conspiracy much but that shite was planned simply for the BCS to get canned and start the playoffs.

Dumb, who are you trying to please ? I don't see where "fair" enters this equation. Historically there have been 3-5 sec teams in the top ten in late November . Fuk the rest of the conferences, if they suck ,they out.

I like that but many would say others should be ahead. Take this year for example, There are 3 teams from the same conference in the top 8. Giving plenty of chances for at least somebody to get in. After seeing the great SEC in the game literally every single year because of sheer numbers, people will rally for the change and you'll get conference champ only, 6 teams any way.

1 FSU
8 Mizzu________1 FSU
2 Auburn_______2 Auburn
7 OSU_______________________1 FSU
3 Bama______________________3 Bama
6 Baylor________3 Bama
4 MSU__________4 MSU
5 Stanford

Alabama understands that when you play in the SEC you don't have to schedule tough OOC games.

Of course, it helps when the SEC office softens the Alabama schedule and makes another west team's schedule harder. The problem for the SEC office was that while they were busy blocking for Alabama against LSU, Auburn jumped up and bit them in the arse.

Agreed. I really don't understand why some sort of formula isn't used.
A win over a winning program = .5 point
A win over a winning program in a BCS conference = 1 point
A win over a BCS program with 3 or less losses = 2 points.

something like a baseline of 1 point for every win over 9.

factor in human polls.. somehow..
like maybe.. subract .5 points for every spot below #1 you are.

add 3 points for winning your conference.

I mean.. yeah.. it would "screw" over the NIUs and Fresno States of the world.. but I think we can all agree they shouldn't be in a playoff anyway.

No bonuses for "style points" - a win is a win. a loss is a loss.
and No more "eyeball" test bullshite.

but it would still allow teams that had amazing years (but didn't win their conference) to get in over less deserving teams..

I dunno.. seems like we create our own controversy. with a mathmatical formula.. there would be no drama.

He didn't win them all though. Fire him and replace him with ... um ... whoever is available and has a better resume.

The 4 team play-off was not created to help the SEC get in more teams. It was created to give the other BCS conferences a better chance.

There are 6 BCS conferences and only 4 spots for the play-off. The committee will heavily favor Conference champions. This was done to prevent 2011 all over again.

BAMA might have gotten into the play-off this year but I am guessing the 4 teams would have been:

FSU
Auburn
Michigan State
Baylor

That is why they are doing away with the computer polls which factor in SOS.

The 4-team playoff will not help the SEC get 2 teams in. Only the computer polls would allow that to happen.

IMO it's come to the point where LSU just needs to win the West and go to the SEC championship game. Forget about scheduling ranked or good OOC teams. This is the formula to get in the playoffs.

All we are doing by scheduling these good OOC teams is beating our self up. Then when we face an OlePiss we aren't up for the game because we overlook them. Stopped making the OOC games and Bama the focus of our season and start making the SEC games bigger deals.

U guy's are getting so excite about the new play off schedule, but it will still be politics. Some Com. will decide who gets the top bowls instead of won loss. I think we need to wait & see if it is any better!

They can't control that Florida and TCU fell off the map and had down years.

Didn't say they could, just that while a schedule may look tough at the beginning of the season might turn out to be not so hot at the end. That makes beating the Ole Misses etc. that much more important.

And looking over next year's home slate:
Sat, Sep 06 Sam Houston St. Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Sep 13 UL-Monroe Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Sep 20 Mississippi St. * Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Sep 27 New Mexico St. Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Oct 18 Kentucky * Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Oct 25 Ole Miss * Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium)

Sat, Nov 08 Alabama * Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

...means that we're going to have to win on the road to overcome that stinker.

It wouldn't surprise me to see LSU fans staying away in droves until the Alabama game. Maybe that would send a message to the scheduling committee. I mean, look at that September-October home line up - are you kidding me?

It will almost certainly happen within the first two years. It would have happened this year. Two years ago there was only two teams in the playoffs, and it happened.

I highly doubt the committee would put Baylor in over Saban and Bama, they'd instantly lose credibility.

You are missing the point......the committee will heavily FAVOR conference CHAMPIONS......Michigan State and Baylor would have made the play-off over Bama this year. The play-off was created to avoid 2011 happening all over again.....not to help the SEC.
